12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had said, Come again to me on the third day.
13And the king answered them roughly, and King Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men.
14And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15So the king did not listen to the people, for the cause was of God, that the LORD might fulfill his word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
8But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, who stood before him.
9And he said to them, What advice do you give that we may return an answer to this people who have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that your father did put upon us?
10And the young men that were brought up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you answer the people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it somewhat lighter for us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.
11If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.
13And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men that they gave him,
14and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke; my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
27If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people shall turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.
8Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
3Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
14If you will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both you and also the king that reigns over you continue following the LORD your God:
7Happy are your men, and happy are these your servants who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom."
11And it shall be, if it makes you answer of peace, and opens to you, then it shall be, that all the people that are found within shall be tributaries to you, and they shall serve you.
7Moreover I will establish his kingdom forever, if he remains steadfast to obey my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
9Now therefore listen to their voice: however, you shall solemnly warn them, and show them the manner of the king who shall reign over them.
23Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,
7If he says thus, It is well; your servant shall have peace: but if he is very angry, then be sure that evil is determined by him.

17He will take a tenth of your sheep: and you shall be his servants.
14And if you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.
7Now therefore arise, go out, and speak kindly to your servants; for I swear by the LORD, if you do not go out, not one will stay with you this night; and that will be worse for you than all the evil that has befallen you from your youth until now.
35For they have not served You in their kingdom, or in the vast and fertile land that You gave them, nor did they turn from their wicked works.
6And Solomon said, You have shown to your servant David my father great mercy, as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you; and you have kept for him this great kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
34But if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father's servant before, so will I now also be your servant: then you may for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel.
10Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand.
31And they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness.
32And indeed, you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear your words, but they do not do them.
7And there gathered to him worthless men, sons of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not resist them.
21And, behold, the divisions of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with you for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with you for all manner of workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the leaders and all the people will be wholly at your command.
8Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore, let the young men find favor in your eyes, for we come on a good day. Please give whatever you can to your servants and to your son David.
19But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods, and worship them;
7They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will provide the interpretation.
