Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves and let him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God? 27 The people answered him in this manner, saying, So shall it be done for the man who kills him. 28 Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men and Eliab's anger burned against David. He said, Why have you come down here? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the wickedness of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle. 29 David said, What have I done now? Is there not a cause? 30 He turned from him to another and spoke in the same way, and the people answered him again as before. 31 When the words that David spoke were heard, they repeated them before Saul, and he sent for him. 32 David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine. 33 Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are just a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth. 34 David said to Saul, Your servant kept his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it, and rescued the lamb from its mouth. When it rose against me, I caught it by its beard, struck it, and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37 David said moreover, The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. Saul said to David, Go, and the LORD be with you. 38 Saul clothed David with his armor, put a bronze helmet on his head, and clothed him with a coat of mail. 39 David fastened his sword over his armor and tried to go, but he was not used to them. David said to Saul, I cannot go with these, for I am not used to them. And David took them off. 40 He took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the brook, put them in the shepherd's bag, in the pouch he had, and with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine. 41 The Philistine came closer and closer to David, and the man who carried his shield went in front of him. 42 When the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him, for he was just a youth, ruddy and handsome in appearance. 43 The Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 The Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the field. 45 Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. I will give the bodies of the Philistine army this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands. 48 When the Philistine arose and came near to meet David, David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49 David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, slung it, and struck the Philistine in the forehead, and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 Thus David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone and struck the Philistine, and killed him. There was no sword in David's hand. 51 David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword, drew it out of its sheath, and killed him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. 52 The men of Israel and Judah arose, shouted, and pursued the Philistines as far as the entrance to the valley and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell along the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath and Ekron. 53 The Israelites returned from chasing after the Philistines and plundered their camp. 54 David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put the Philistine's armor in his tent. 55 When Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, Abner, whose son is this youth? Abner said, As your soul lives, O king, I do not know. 56 The king said, Inquire whose son the young man is. 57 When David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. 58 Saul said to him, Whose son are you, young man? David answered, I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.

For I have not brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste. 9 And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you struck down in the Valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if you will take that, take it, for there is no other but that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it to me. 10 And David arose and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath. 11 And the servants of Achish said to him, Is this not David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances, saying, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands? 12 And David took these words to heart and was very afraid of Achish the king of Gath. 13 And he changed his behavior before them, and pretended to be mad in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down on his beard. 14 Then Achish said to his servants, Look, you see the man is mad: why have you brought him to me? 15 Do I need mad men, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?

And Joram brought with him articles of silver, articles of gold, and articles of bronze. 11 These king David also dedicated to the LORD, along with the silver and gold that he had dedicated from all the nations he had subdued: 12 From Syria, Moab, the children of Ammon, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah. 13 And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down eighteen thousand men of the Syrians in the Valley of Salt. 14 And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David wherever he went. 15 And David reigned over all Israel, and David executed judgment and justice for all his people. 16 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder; 17 And Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe; 18 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were chief officials.

And if you repay me, swiftly and speedily I will return your recompense upon your own head; 5 Because you have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my precious pleasant things. 6 The children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem you have sold to the Greeks, that you might remove them far from their border. 7 Behold, I will raise them out of the place where you have sold them, and will return your recompense upon your own head: 8 And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off, for the LORD has spoken it. 9 Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: 10 Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, I am strong. 11 Assemble yourselves and come, all you nations, and gather yourselves together round about; cause your mighty ones to come down there, O LORD. 12 Let the nations be stirred up, and come to the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. 13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe; come, get down, for the press is full, the vats overflow, for their wickedness is great. 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision, for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. 16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake. But the LORD will be the hope of his people and the strength of the children of Israel. 17 So shall you know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain. Then shall Jerusalem be holy, and strangers shall no longer pass through her. 18 And it shall come to pass in that day that the mountains shall drip with new wine, the hills shall flow with milk, and all the brooks of Judah shall flow with water, and a fountain shall come forth from the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim. 19 Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land. 20 But Judah shall abide forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. 21 For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed, for the LORD dwells in Zion.
• Amos 1:6-8 : 6 Thus says the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom: 7 But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour its palaces: 8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon, and I will turn My hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, says the Lord GOD.
• Zeph 2:4-7 : 4 For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron shall be uprooted. 5 Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will destroy you, so there shall be no inhabitant. 6 And the seacoast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks. 7 And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed there: in the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.
• Zech 9:5-8 : 5 Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron, for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited. 6 A mixed race shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. 7 I will take away his blood from his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he who remains, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be like a governor in Judah, and Ekron like a Jebusite. 8 I will encamp around my house because of the army, because of him who passes by, and because of him who returns: and no oppressor shall pass through them anymore, for now I have seen with my eyes.
