He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so You will restore me, and make me live. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but in love for my soul, You have delivered it from the pit of corruption: for You have cast all my sins behind Your back. 18 For Sheol cannot praise You, death cannot celebrate You: those who go down into the pit cannot hope for Your truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise You, as I do this day: the father shall make known Your truth to the children. 20 The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.

  • Acts 22:1-9 : 1 Men, brothers, and fathers, listen to my defense which I now present to you. 2 And when they heard that he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, they became even more silent. And he said, 3 I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of our fathers, and was zealous toward God, as you all are today. 4 And I persecuted this way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. 5 As also the high priest bears me witness, and all the council of the elders, from whom I also received letters to the brothers, and went to Damascus to bring those who were there bound to Jerusalem, to be punished. 6 And it happened, that as I made my journey and was near Damascus around noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me. 7 And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? 8 And I answered, Who are you, Lord? And he said to me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute. 9 And those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they did not hear the voice of him who spoke to me. 10 And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said to me, Arise, and go into Damascus, and there it shall be told to you everything that is appointed for you to do. 11 And since I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus. 12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews who dwelt there, 13 Came to me, and stood, and said to me, Brother Saul, receive your sight. And at that very moment, I looked up at him. 14 And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen you, that you should know his will and see that Righteous One, and should hear the voice of his mouth. 15 For you shall be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. 16 And now why do you delay? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord. 17 And it happened, when I returned to Jerusalem, and while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance, 18 And saw him saying to me, Make haste and get quickly out of Jerusalem, for they will not receive your testimony concerning me. 19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you. 20 And when the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, consenting to his death, and kept the clothes of those who killed him. 21 And he said to me, Depart, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.
  • Acts 26:4-9 : 4 My manner of life from my youth, which was at the beginning among my own nation at Jerusalem, all the Jews know; 5 Who knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. 6 And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers: 7 To which promise our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God day and night, hope to attain. For this hope's sake, King Agrippa, I am accused by the Jews. 8 Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead? 9 I truly thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. 11 And I punished them often in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities. 12 Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, 13 At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining around me and those who journeyed with me. 14 And when we had all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking to me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? it is hard for you to kick against the pricks. 15 And I said, Who are you, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom you persecute. 16 But rise, and stand upon your feet: for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of these things which you have seen, and of those things in which I will appear to you; 17 Delivering you from the people, and from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith that is in me. 19 Whereupon, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision: 20 But showed first to those of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works fitting for repentance. 21 For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and attempted to kill me. 22 Having therefore obtained help from God, I continue to this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses said would come: 23 That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first to rise from the dead, and should show light to the people, and to the Gentiles. 24 And as he thus spoke for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, you are out of your mind; much learning is driving you mad. 25 But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soundness. 26 For the king knows of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe. 28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, You almost persuade me to become a Christian. 29 And Paul said, I would to God, that not only you, but also all who hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except for these chains.
  • Jonah 2:1-9 : 1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish's belly, 2 And said, I cried out because of my affliction to the LORD, and He heard me; out of the depths of the grave I cried, and You heard my voice. 3 For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas; and the floods surrounded me, all Your waves and billows passed over me. 4 Then I said, I am cast out of Your sight; yet I will look again toward Your holy temple. 5 The waters surrounded me, even to my soul: the depths closed in around me, the seaweed was wrapped around my head. 6 I went down to the foundations of the mountains; the earth with its bars was around me forever: yet You have brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God. 7 When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came to You, into Your holy temple. 8 Those who regard worthless idols forsake their own mercy. 9 But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. 10 And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto the dry land.
