5 and he had prepared for him a large room, where previously they had stored the grain offerings, the frankincense, the vessels, and the tithes of grain, new wine, and oil, which were commanded to be given to the Levites, the singers, and the gatekeepers, as well as the offerings for the priests.
8 Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to oversee the work of the house of the LORD.
30 The priests and the Levites purified themselves, and purified the people, and the gates, and the wall.
31 Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of those who gave thanks, of which one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the Dung Gate.
10 I also realized that the portions for the Levites had not been given to them, so the Levites and the singers, who did the work, had each fled to his field.
11 So I contended with the rulers, and said, Why has the house of God been forsaken? And I gathered them together and placed them in their stations.

28 And has extended mercy to me before the king, and his counselors, and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered chief men from Israel to go up with me.
47 And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the gatekeepers, every day his portion; and they consecrated holy things to the Levites, and the Levites consecrated them to the children of Aaron.

8 And a letter to Asaph, the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which pertain to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.
9 Then I went to the governors beyond the river, and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.
16 Indeed, I also devoted myself to the work on this wall and did not buy any land. All my servants were gathered there for the work.
19 Then I said to the nobles, the rulers, and the rest of the people, The work is great and extensive, and we are separated on the wall, far from one another.
70 So the priests, the Levites, some of the people, the singers, the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.
6 Moreover the old gate was repaired by Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid its beams, and set up its doors, and its locks, and its bars.
7 And next to them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, to the throne of the governor on this side of the river.
13 Therefore I set men in the lowest parts behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people according to their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
15 And the singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun, the king's seer; and the porters waited at every gate. They could not depart from their service, because their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
7 Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this:
19 So it was, at the gates of Jerusalem as it began to be dark before the Sabbath, that I commanded the gates to be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath. Then I stationed some of my servants at the gates, so that no burdens would be brought in on the Sabbath day.
10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel.
15 And it happened, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and God had brought their plan to nothing, that we all returned to the wall, each to his work.
9 Then we asked those elders and said to them, Who commanded you to build this house and to finish these walls?
38 The other company of those who gave thanks went opposite them, and I after them, and half of the people upon the wall, from beyond the Tower of the Furnaces even to the Broad Wall;
21 Then I warned them, and said to them, Why do you spend the night around the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time on they came no more on the Sabbath.
