12Now, assign me this hill country which the LORD promised me at that time! No doubt you heard at that time that the Anakites live there in large, fortified cities. But, assuming the LORD is with me, I will conquer them, as the LORD promised.”
14Now the length of time it took for us to go from Kadesh Barnea to the crossing of Wadi Zered was thirty-eight years, time for all the military men of that generation to die, just as the LORD had vowed to them.
36The men whom Moses sent to investigate the land, who returned and made the whole community murmur against him by producing an evil report about the land,
37those men who produced the evil report about the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
38But Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among the men who went to investigate the land, lived.
39When Moses told these things to all the Israelites, the people mourned greatly.

36The exception is Caleb son of Jephunneh; he will see it and I will give him and his descendants the territory on which he has walked, because he has wholeheartedly followed me.”
37As for me, the LORD was also angry with me on your account. He said,“You also will not be able to go there.
11‘Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years old and upward who came from Egypt will see the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
12except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the LORD wholeheartedly.’
29Your dead bodies will fall in this wilderness– all those of you who were numbered, according to your full number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me.
30You will by no means enter into the land where I swore to settle you. The only exceptions are Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
31But I will bring in your little ones, whom you said would become victims of war, and they will enjoy the land that you have despised.
65For the LORD had said of them,“They will surely die in the wilderness.” And there was not left a single man of them, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
22So all of you approached me and said,“Let’s send some men ahead of us to scout out the land and bring us back word as to how we should attack it and what the cities are like there.”
23I thought this was a good idea, so I sent twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.
24They left and went up to the hill country, coming to the Eshcol Valley, which they scouted out.
2He said to them,“Today I am a hundred and twenty years old. I am no longer able to get about, and the LORD has said to me,‘You will not cross the Jordan.’
34According to the number of the days you have investigated this land, forty days– one day for a year– you will suffer for your iniquities, forty years, and you will know what it means to thwart me.
9“There your fathers tested me and tried me, and they saw my works for forty years.
6Indeed, for forty years the Israelites traveled through the wilderness until all the men old enough to fight when they left Egypt, the ones who had disobeyed the LORD, died off. For the LORD had sworn a solemn oath to them that he would not let them see the land he had sworn by oath to their ancestors to give them, a land rich in milk and honey.
10I brought you up from the land of Egypt; I led you through the wilderness for forty years so you could take the Amorites’ land as your own.
19Then we left Horeb and passed through all that immense, forbidding wilderness that you saw on the way to the Amorite hill country as the LORD our God had commanded us to do, finally arriving at Kadesh Barnea.
36This man led them out, performing wonders and miraculous signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.

22For all the people have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have tempted me now these ten times, and have not obeyed me,
1The Lord Speaks to Joshua When Joshua was very old, the LORD told him,“You are very old, and a great deal of land remains to be conquered.
2“Send out men to investigate the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. You are to send one man from each ancestral tribe, each one a leader among them.”
5I have led you through the wilderness for forty years. Your clothing has not worn out nor have your sandals deteriorated.
