  • Isa 38:1-9 : 1 In those days Hezekiah was sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, Thus says the LORD, Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live. 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the LORD, 3 And said, Remember now, O LORD, I beg You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done what is good in Your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears: behold, I will add to your days fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city. 7 And this shall be a sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that He has spoken: 8 Behold, I will bring back the shadow on the sundial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. 16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so You will restore me, and make me live. 17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but in love for my soul, You have delivered it from the pit of corruption: for You have cast all my sins behind Your back. 18 For Sheol cannot praise You, death cannot celebrate You: those who go down into the pit cannot hope for Your truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise You, as I do this day: the father shall make known Your truth to the children. 20 The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD. 21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and apply it like a plaster on the boil, and he shall recover. 22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?

  • Jonah 3:4-9 : 4 And Jonah began to enter into the city, a day's journey, and he cried out, saying, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. 6 For word came to the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not eat, nor drink water. 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in their hands. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we do not perish? 10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented of the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.
