This shall be a sign to the house of Israel. 4 Lie also upon your left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: according to the number of the days that you shall lie upon it, you shall bear their iniquity. 5 For I have laid upon you the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days; so shall you bear the iniquity of the house of Israel. 6 And when you have completed them, lie again on your right side, and you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed you each day for a year. 7 Therefore you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and your arm shall be uncovered, and you shall prophesy against it. 8 Behold, I will put bands upon you, and you shall not turn from one side to another, till you have completed the days of your siege. 9 Take also wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt, and put them in one vessel, and make bread of it for the number of the days that you shall lie upon your side, three hundred and ninety days you shall eat of it. 10 And the food which you shall eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from time to time you shall eat it. 11 You shall drink water by measure, the sixth part of a hin; from time to time you shall drink. 12 And you shall eat it as barley cakes, and you shall bake it with human dung in their sight. 13 And the LORD said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, where I will drive them. 14 Then I said, Ah Lord GOD! behold, my soul has not been polluted, for from my youth up till now I have not eaten of that which dies of itself or is torn in pieces, neither has abominable flesh come into my mouth. 15 Then he said to me, See, I have given you cow's dung instead of human dung, and you shall prepare your bread with it. 16 Moreover he said to me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment: 17 That they may lack bread and water, and be dismayed one with another, and waste away for their iniquity.

  • Jer 18:2-9 : 2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause you to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he was working on the wheels. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again into another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? says the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. 7 At any moment I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; 8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turns from their evil, I will relent of the evil that I thought to do to them. 9 And at any moment I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 If it does evil in my sight, so that it does not obey my voice, then I will relent of the good with which I said I would benefit them. 11 Now therefore go, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a plan against you: return now everyone from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good. 12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own plans, and we will everyone do the imagination of his evil heart.
  • Jer 19:1-9 : 1 Thus says the LORD, Go and get a potter's earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests; 2 And go forth to the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell you, 3 And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring disaster upon this place, which whoever hears of it, his ears shall tingle. 4 Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents; 5 They have also built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I commanded not, nor spoke it, nor did it come into my mind: 6 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that this place shall no longer be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter. 7 And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of those who seek their lives: and their corpses will I give to be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth. 8 And I will make this city desolate, and an object of scorn; everyone who passes by it shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues. 9 And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend during the siege and distress, with which their enemies, and those who seek their lives, shall distress them. 10 Then you shall break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with you, 11 And shall say to them, Thus says the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, until there is no place left to bury. 12 Thus will I do to this place, says the LORD, and to its inhabitants, and even make this city like Tophet: 13 And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled like the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense to all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings to other gods. 14 Then Jeremiah came from Tophet, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD’S house; and said to all the people, 15 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.
