  • Jer 46:2-9 : 2 Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah. 3 Prepare the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. 4 Harness the horses; and get up, you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; polish the spears, and put on the armor. 5 Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back? Their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled quickly, and do not look back: for fear is all around, says the LORD. 6 Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates. 7 Who is this that comes up like a flood, whose waters move like the rivers? 8 Egypt rises up like a flood, and his waters move like the rivers; and he says, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants. 9 Come up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men come forth: the Ethiopians and the Libyans, who handle the shield; and the Lydians, who handle and bend the bow. 10 For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge himself on his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. 11 Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shall you use many medicines; you shall not be cured. 12 The nations have heard of your shame, and your cry has filled the land: for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, and they have both fallen together. 13 The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would come and strike the land of Egypt. 14 Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Migdol, and proclaim in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say, Stand fast, and prepare yourself; for the sword shall devour around you. 15 Why are your valiant men swept away? They stood not, because the LORD drove them. 16 He made many to fall, yes, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword.
  • Isa 18:1-19:17 : 1 Woe to the land with wings of shadow, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia: 2 That sends ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of papyrus upon the waters, saying, Go, you swift messengers, to a nation scattered and polished, to a people feared from their beginning until now; a nation divided and trampled, whose land the rivers have ravaged! 3 All you inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see when he lifts up an ensign on the mountains; and when he blows a trumpet, hear. 4 For so the LORD said to me, I will take my rest, and I will observe in my dwelling place like a clear heat on herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest. 5 For before the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches. 6 They shall be left together to the birds of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth: and the birds shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them. 7 At that time shall the present be brought to the LORD of hosts from a people scattered and polished, and from a people feared from their beginning until now; a nation divided and trampled under foot, whose land the rivers have ravaged, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, Mount Zion. 1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rides upon a swift cloud and shall come into Egypt. The idols of Egypt shall be moved at His presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in its midst. 2 I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians, and they shall fight every one against his brother and every one against his neighbor; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom. 3 The spirit of Egypt shall fail in its midst; I will destroy its counsel, and they shall seek the idols, the charmers, those with familiar spirits, and the wizards. 4 I will give the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel lord, and a fierce king shall rule over them, says the Lord, the LORD of hosts. 5 The waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up. 6 They shall turn the rivers away; the brooks of defense shall be emptied and dried up; the reeds and rushes shall wither. 7 The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and everything sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more. 8 The fishermen also shall mourn, and all who cast hooks into the brooks shall lament, and those who spread nets upon the waters shall languish. 9 Moreover, those who work in fine flax and those who weave networks shall be confounded. 10 They shall be broken in their purposes, all who make sluices and ponds for fish. 11 Surely the princes of Zoan are fools; the counsel of the wise counselors of Pharaoh has become brutish. How can you say to Pharaoh, 'I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?' 12 Where are they? Where are your wise men? Let them tell you now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts has purposed against Egypt. 13 The princes of Zoan are become fools; the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they who are the foundation of its tribes. 14 The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in its midst, and they have caused Egypt to err in every work, like a drunken man staggers in his vomit. 15 Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do. 16 In that day Egypt shall be like women, and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which He shakes over it. 17 The land of Judah shall be a terror to Egypt; everyone who mentions it shall be afraid in themselves because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which He has determined against it.
  • Isa 20:1-6 : 1 In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against Ashdod, and took it; 2 At that same time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and remove the sackcloth from your waist, and take off your sandals from your feet. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. 3 And the LORD said, Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia; 4 So will the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians as prisoners, and the Ethiopians as captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt. 5 And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their hope, and of Egypt their boast. 6 And the inhabitant of this coastland shall say in that day, Behold, such is our hope, where we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and how shall we escape?

  • Ezek 30:1-32:32 : 1 The word of the LORD came again to me, saying, 2 Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Wail, Woe to the day! 3 For the day is near, the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it will be the time of the nations. 4 And the sword will come upon Egypt, and great pain will be in Ethiopia, when the slain fall in Egypt, and they take away her multitude, and her foundations are broken down. 5 Ethiopia, Libya, Lydia, all the mingled people, Chub, and the men of the land that is in alliance, will fall with them by the sword. 6 Thus says the LORD; Those who uphold Egypt will fall; and the pride of her power will come down: from the tower of Syene they will fall by the sword, says the Lord GOD. 7 They will be desolate among the countries that are desolate, and her cities will be among the cities that are wasted. 8 And they will know that I am the LORD, when I have set a fire in Egypt, and all her helpers are destroyed. 9 In that day messengers will go forth from me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid, and great pain will come upon them, as in the day of Egypt: for, behold, it comes. 10 Thus says the Lord GOD; I will make the multitude of Egypt to cease by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. 11 He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, will be brought to destroy the land: they will draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain. 12 I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it. 13 Thus says the Lord GOD; I will destroy the idols, and cause their images to cease out of Noph; there will be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: I will put a fear in the land of Egypt. 14 I will make Pathros desolate, set fire in Zoan, and execute judgments in No. 15 I will pour my fury on Sin, the strength of Egypt; and I will cut off the multitude of No. 16 I will set fire in Egypt: Sin will suffer great pain, No will be torn apart, and Noph will have distresses daily. 17 The young men of Aven and Pibeseth will fall by the sword: and these cities will go into captivity. 18 At Tehaphnehes the day will be darkened, when I break there the yokes of Egypt: the pomp of her strength will cease in her: as for her, a cloud will cover her, and her daughters will go into captivity. 19 Thus I will execute judgments in Egypt: and they will know that I am the LORD. 20 It came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 21 Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, behold, it will not be bound up to be healed, to wrap with a bandage, to become strong to hold the sword. 22 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong and the broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand. 23 I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them through the countries. 24 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh's arms, and he will groan before him with the groanings of a mortally wounded man. 25 But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and Pharaoh's arms will fall down; and they will know that I am the LORD, when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt. 26 I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them among the countries; and they will know that I am the LORD. 1 And it happened in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 Son of man, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Who are you like in your greatness? 3 Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with beautiful branches, and with a sheltering canopy, and of high stature; and its top was among the thick boughs. 4 The waters made it great, the deep set it up on high with its rivers running around its plants, and sent out its little rivers to all the trees of the field. 5 Therefore its height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and its boughs were multiplied, and its branches became long because of the multitude of waters as it spread out. 6 All the birds of heaven made their nests in its boughs, and under its branches all the beasts of the field gave birth to their young, and under its shadow all great nations dwelt. 7 Thus it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches, for its root was by great waters. 8 The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it; the fir trees were not like its boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like its branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like it in beauty. 9 I made it beautiful by the multitude of its branches, so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied it. 10 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Because you have lifted yourself up in height, and it has set its top among the thick boughs, and its heart is lifted up in its height; 11 I have therefore delivered it into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with it: I have driven it out for its wickedness. 12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut it off and have left it; on the mountains and in all the valleys its branches have fallen, and its boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the peoples of the earth have gone down from its shadow and have left it. 13 On its ruin all the birds of the heavens will dwell, and all the beasts of the field will be on its branches: 14 So that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, nor set their top among the thick boughs, nor any tree stand up to its height, all that drink water; for they are all delivered to death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with those who go down to the pit. 15 Thus says the Lord GOD; In the day when it went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for it, and I restrained its floods, and the great waters were stopped: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for it, and all the trees of the field fainted for it. 16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of its fall, when I cast it down to hell with those who descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the lower parts of the earth. 17 They also went down into hell with it to those who are slain with the sword; and those who were its arm, who dwelt under its shadow in the midst of the nations. 18 Who are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth; you shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord GOD. 1 And it happened in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him, You are like a young lion of the nations, and you are like a whale in the seas; and you came forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers. 3 Thus says the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread my net over you with a company of many people; and they shall bring you up in my net. 4 Then will I leave you upon the land, I will cast you out upon the open field, and will cause all the birds of the sky to remain upon you, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with you. 5 And I will lay your flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with your height. 6 I will also water with your blood the land where you swim, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of you. 7 And when I extinguish you, I will cover the sky, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give its light. 8 All the bright lights of the sky will I make dark over you, and set darkness upon your land, says the Lord GOD. 9 I will also trouble the hearts of many people, when I bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries which you have not known. 10 Yes, I will make many people amazed at you, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for you, when I brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall. 11 For thus says the Lord GOD; The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you. 12 By the swords of the mighty will I cause your multitude to fall, the terrible of the nations, all of them: and they shall plunder the pomp of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed. 13 I will destroy also all its beasts from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them anymore, nor the hooves of beasts trouble them. 14 Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, says the Lord GOD. 15 When I make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country is destitute of all that which it was full, when I strike all those who dwell therein, then shall they know that I am the LORD. 16 This is the lamentation with which they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, for Egypt, and for all her multitude, says the Lord GOD. 17 It happened also in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 18 Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, her and the daughters of famous nations, to the lower parts of the earth, with those who go down into the pit. 19 Whom do you surpass in beauty? go down, and be laid with the uncircumcised. 20 They shall fall in the midst of those who are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes. 21 The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with those who help him: they have gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword. 22 Asshur is there and all her company: his graves are all around him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword: 23 Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is around her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who caused terror in the land of the living. 24 There is Elam and all her multitude around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who have gone down uncircumcised to the lower parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living; yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit. 25 They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are around him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of those who are slain. 26 There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves are around him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. 27 And they shall not lie with the mighty who are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. 28 Yes, you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shall lie with those who are slain with the sword. 29 There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, who in their might are laid by those who were slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with those who go down to the pit. 30 There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, who have gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit. 31 Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, says the Lord GOD. 32 For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with those who are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord GOD.
