- Num 3:1-4:49 : 1 These are also the generations of Aaron and Moses when the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. 2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed, whom he consecrated to serve in the priest's office. 4 But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children: so Eleazar and Ithamar served in the priest's office in the presence of Aaron their father. 5 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, so that they may serve him. 7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle. 8 And they shall keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the children of Israel, to perform the service of the tabernacle. 9 And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are completely given to him from among the children of Israel. 10 And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall fulfill their duties in the priest's office; and the outsider who comes near shall be put to death. 11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 12 Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn who open the womb among the children of Israel; therefore the Levites shall be mine; 13 Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both of man and beast: they shall be mine: I am the LORD. 14 And the LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, 15 Count the children of Levi by their families, by their fathers' houses; every male from a month old and above shall be counted. 16 So Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as he was commanded. 17 These were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei. 19 And the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 20 And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by their fathers' houses. 21 Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shimites; these are the families of the Gershonites. 22 The number of those who were counted of them, according to the number of all the males from a month old and above, were seven thousand and five hundred. 23 The families of the Gershonites shall camp behind the tabernacle westward. 24 And the leader of the house of the father of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael. 25 And the duty of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting shall be the tabernacle, the tent, its covering, the curtain for the entrance of the tent of meeting, 26 The hangings of the court, the curtain for the entrance of the court which is around the tabernacle and altar, and their cords—for all the service connected with these. 27 Of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, the Izeharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites; these are the families of the Kohathites. 28 The total number of all the males from a month old and above was eight thousand and six hundred, assigned duties for the sanctuary. 29 The families of the sons of Kohath shall camp on the south side of the tabernacle. 30 The leader of the house of the father of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel. 31 Their duty shall be the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the vessels of the sanctuary, with which they minister, the curtain, and all related service. 32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the leaders of the Levites and have the oversight of those who perform the duties of the sanctuary. 33 Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites; these are the families of Merari. 34 The number of those who were counted of them, according to the number of all the males from a month old and above, was six thousand and two hundred. 35 The leader of the house of the father of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail; these shall camp on the north side of the tabernacle. 36 Under the care and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the frames of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its utensils, all their service, 37 The pillars of the surrounding court, their sockets, their pegs, and their cords. 38 But those who camp before the tabernacle on the east, toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, Aaron, and his sons, performing the duties of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the outsider who comes near shall be put to death. 39 All who were counted of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron counted at the command of the LORD, by their families, all the males from a month old and above, were twenty-two thousand. 40 And the LORD said to Moses, Count all the firstborn males of the children of Israel from a month old and above, and take the number of their names. 41 And you shall take the Levites for me (I am the LORD) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn cattle among the children of Israel. 42 And Moses counted, as the LORD commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Israel. 43 And all the firstborn males by the number of names, from a month old and above, of those who were counted of them, were twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three. 44 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 45 Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle; and the Levites shall be mine: I am the LORD. 46 And for the redemption of the two hundred and seventy-three of the firstborn of the children of Israel, who are in excess of the Levites; 47 You shall take five shekels each by the head, according to the shekel of the sanctuary you shall take them: (the shekel is twenty gerahs:) 48 And you shall give the money, by which the excess number of them is to be redeemed, to Aaron and to his sons. 49 So Moses took the redemption money from those who were in excess of those redeemed by the Levites: 50 From the firstborn of the children of Israel he took the money; one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. 51 And Moses gave the money of those who were redeemed to Aaron and to his sons, according to the word of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses. 1 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 2 Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their families, by the house of their fathers, 3 From thirty years old and upward, even until fifty years old, all that enter the service, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation. 4 This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation, regarding the most holy things: 5 And when the camp moves forward, Aaron shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down the covering veil, and cover the ark of testimony with it: 6 And shall put on it the covering of badgers' skins, and shall spread over it a cloth entirely of blue, and shall put in the poles. 7 And upon the table of showbread they shall spread a cloth of blue, and put on it the dishes, and the spoons, and the bowls, and covers for covering, and the continual bread shall be on it: 8 And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet, and cover the same with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put in the poles. 9 And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the lampstand of the light, and its lamps, and its tongs, and its trays, and all the oil vessels thereof, with which they serve it: 10 And they shall put it and all the vessels within a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put it upon a bar. 11 And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue, and cover it with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put in the poles. 12 And they shall take all the instruments of ministry, with which they serve in the sanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put them on a bar. 13 And they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth on it: 14 And they shall put upon it all the vessels with which they serve about it, even the censers, the forks, the shovels, and the basins, all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers' skins, and put in the poles of it. 15 And when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to move forward, after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to carry it; but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation. 16 And to the office of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, pertains the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the daily grain offering, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the tabernacle, and all that is in it, in the sanctuary, and in its vessels. 17 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 18 Do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites: 19 But do this for them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in, and appoint every one to his service and to his burden: 20 But they shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die. 21 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 22 Take also the sum of the sons of Gershon, by their families, by the house of their fathers; 23 From thirty years old and upward until fifty years old, shall you number them; all that enter to perform the service, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation. 24 This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, to serve and bear burdens: 25 And they shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle, and the tabernacle of the congregation, its covering, and the covering of badgers' skins that is above upon it, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, 26 And the hangings of the court, and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar all around, and their cords, and all the instruments of their service, and all that is made for them: so shall they serve. 27 At the appointment of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens, and in all their service: and you shall appoint to them in charge all their burdens. 28 This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the congregation: and their charge shall be under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest. 29 As for the sons of Merari, you shall number them by their families, by the house of their fathers; 30 From thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old you shall number them, every one that enters into the service, to do the work of the tabernacle of the congregation. 31 And this is the charge of their burden, according to all their service in the tabernacle of the congregation; the boards of the tabernacle, and its bars, and its pillars, and its sockets, 32 And the pillars of the court all around, and their sockets, and their pegs, and their cords, with all their instruments, and with all their service: and by name you shall reckon the instruments of the charge of their burden. 33 This is the service of the families of the sons of Merari, according to all their service, in the tabernacle of the congregation, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. 34 And Moses and Aaron and the chiefs of the congregation numbered the sons of the Kohathites by their families, and by the house of their fathers, 35 From thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, every one that enters into service, for work in the tabernacle of the congregation: 36 And those that were numbered by their families were two thousand seven hundred and fifty. 37 These were they that were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, all that might do service in the tabernacle of the congregation, which Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 38 And those that were numbered of the sons of Gershon, by their families, and by the house of their fathers, 39 From thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, every one that enters into service, for work in the tabernacle of the congregation, 40 Even those that were numbered by their families, by the house of their fathers, were two thousand six hundred and thirty. 41 These are they that were numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, all that might do service in the tabernacle of the congregation, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the LORD. 42 And those that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, by their families, by the house of their fathers, 43 From thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, every one that enters into service, for work in the tabernacle of the congregation, 44 Even those that were numbered after their families, were three thousand two hundred. 45 These are they that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 46 All those that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the chiefs of Israel numbered, by their families, and by the house of their fathers, 47 From thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, every one that came to do the service of ministry, and the service of the burden in the tabernacle of the congregation, 48 Even those that were numbered of them were eight thousand five hundred and eighty. 49 According to the commandment of the LORD they were numbered by the hand of Moses, every one according to his service, and according to his burden: thus they were numbered, as the LORD commanded Moses.
- Num 26:57-62 : 57 And these are they that were numbered of the Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites: of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites. 58 These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begot Amram. 59 And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt: and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. 60 And to Aaron were born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 61 And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD. 62 And those that were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, all males from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel.

These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers. 20 Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son, 21 Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeaterai his son. 22 The sons of Kohath: Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son, 23 Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph his son, Assir his son, 24 Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son. 25 And the sons of Elkanah: Amasai and Ahimoth. 26 As for Elkanah: the sons of Elkanah: Zophai his son, Nahath his son, 27 Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son. 28 And the sons of Samuel: the firstborn Vashni and Abiah. 29 The sons of Merari: Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzza his son, 30 Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, Asaiah his son. 31 And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after the ark had rest. 32 And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem; and then they waited on their office according to their order. 33 And these are they that waited with their children. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman a singer, the son of Joel, the son of Shemuel, 34 The son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah, 35 The son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai, 36 The son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah, 37 The son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, 38 The son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel. 39 And his brother Asaph, who stood at his right hand, Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea, 40 The son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchiah, 41 The son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, 42 The son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei, 43 The son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi. 44 And their brethren, the sons of Merari, stood on the left hand: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch, 45 The son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah, 46 The son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shamer, 47 The son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi. 48 Their brethren also, the Levites, were appointed for all kinds of service of the tabernacle of the house of God. 49 But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense, and were appointed for all the work of the most holy place, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded. 50 And these are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son, 51 Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, 52 Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, 53 Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son. 54 Now these are their dwelling places throughout their settlements within their borders, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites: for theirs was the first lot. 55 And they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and its surrounding pasturelands. 56 But the fields of the city, and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 57 And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of Judah, namely, Hebron the city of refuge, Libnah with its pasturelands, Jattir, and Eshtemoa, with their pasturelands, 58 And Hilen with its pasturelands, Debir with its pasturelands, 59 And Ashan with its pasturelands, and Bethshemesh with its pasturelands: 60 And out of the tribe of Benjamin: Geba with its pasturelands, Alemeth with its pasturelands, and Anathoth with its pasturelands. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities. 61 And to the sons of Kohath, those remaining of the family of that tribe, were given cities out of the half tribe of Manasseh, by lot, ten cities. 62 And to the sons of Gershom, according to their families, out of the tribe of Issachar, out of the tribe of Asher, out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. 63 To the sons of Merari were given by lot, according to their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. 64 And the children of Israel gave to the Levites these cities with their pasturelands. 65 And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names. 66 And the remaining families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their territory out of the tribe of Ephraim. 67 And they gave to them, of the cities of refuge, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim with its pasturelands; they also gave Gezer with its pasturelands, 68 And Jokmeam with its pasturelands, and Bethhoron with its pasturelands, 69 And Aijalon with its pasturelands, and Gathrimmon with its pasturelands: 70 And out of the half tribe of Manasseh: Aner with its pasturelands, and Bileam with its pasturelands, for the family of the remnant of the sons of Kohath. 71 To the sons of Gershom were given out of the family of the half tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasturelands, and Ashtaroth with its pasturelands: 72 And out of the tribe of Issachar: Kedesh with its pasturelands, Daberath with its pasturelands, 73 And Ramoth with its pasturelands, and Anem with its pasturelands: 74 And out of the tribe of Asher: Mashal with its pasturelands, and Abdon with its pasturelands, 75 And Hukok with its pasturelands, and Rehob with its pasturelands: 76 And out of the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with its pasturelands, Hammon with its pasturelands, and Kirjathaim with its pasturelands. 77 To the rest of the children of Merari were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon with its pasturelands, Tabor with its pasturelands: 78 And on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, were given to them out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with its pasturelands, and Jahzah with its pasturelands, 79 Kedemoth also with its pasturelands, and Mephaath with its pasturelands: 80 And out of the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasturelands, 81 Heshbon with its pasturelands, and Jazer with its pasturelands.
- 1 Chr 21:6 : 6 But he did not count Levi and Benjamin among them: for the king's word was detestable to Joab.
- Num 8:1-9 : 1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 Speak to Aaron, and say to him, When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand. 3 And Aaron did so; he lit the lamps in front of the lampstand, as the LORD commanded Moses. 4 And this work of the lampstand was of hammered gold, from its shaft to its flowers, it was hammered work: according to the pattern the LORD had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand. 5 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 Take the Levites from among the children of Israel and cleanse them. 7 And thus shall you do to them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purification upon them, let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and make themselves clean. 8 Then let them take a young bull with its grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil, and another young bull you shall take for a sin offering. 9 And you shall bring the Levites before the tabernacle of meeting, and gather the whole assembly of the children of Israel together. 10 And you shall bring the Levites before the LORD, and the children of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites. 11 And Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD as a wave offering from the children of Israel, that they may perform the service of the LORD. 12 The Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the young bulls, and you shall offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to the LORD, to make atonement for the Levites. 13 And you shall set the Levites before Aaron and his sons and offer them as a wave offering to the LORD. 14 Thus shall you separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine. 15 After that, the Levites shall go in to perform the service of the tabernacle of meeting, and you shall cleanse them and offer them as a wave offering. 16 For they are wholly given to me among the children of Israel; instead of all who open the womb, the firstborn of all the children of Israel, I have taken them for myself. 17 For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified them to myself. 18 And I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn of the children of Israel. 19 And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the children of Israel, to perform the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel, that there be no plague among the children of Israel when they come near the sanctuary. 20 Thus Moses, Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel did to the Levites; according to all that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them. 21 The Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them as a wave offering before the LORD, and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them. 22 After that, the Levites went in to perform their service in the tabernacle of meeting before Aaron and his sons; as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them. 23 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 This is what regards the Levites: from twenty-five years old and above, they shall go in to perform the work in the tabernacle of meeting. 25 And at the age of fifty years, they shall cease performing this work and shall serve no more. 26 But they may minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of meeting, to attend to needs, but shall do no work. Thus shall you do to the Levites regarding their duties.
- Num 1:3 : 3 From twenty years old and above, all who are able to go to war in Israel: you and Aaron shall number them by their armies.
- Num 1:50 : 50 But you shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all things that belong to it: they shall carry the tabernacle, and all its vessels; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp around the tabernacle.
