  • 1 Chr 28:2-3 : 2 Then King David stood to his feet and said: “Listen to me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a resting place for the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD and a footstool for our God, and I made preparations to build it. 3 But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My name, because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
  • 1 Chr 29:1-9 : 1 Then King David said to the entire assembly, "My son Solomon, the one chosen by God, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great because this temple is not for man but for the LORD God." 2 So, to the best of my ability, I have made preparations for the house of my God: gold for the gold work, silver for the silver work, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as onyx stones, inlaid stones, colored stones, all kinds of precious stones, and marble in abundance. 3 Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now dedicate my personal treasure of gold and silver for the house of my God, in addition to all I have already provided for the holy house. 4 This includes three thousand talents of gold from Ophir and seven thousand talents of refined silver to overlay the walls of the buildings. 5 Gold for the gold work and silver for the silver work, and for all the work done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the LORD today? 6 Then the leaders of the families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly. 7 They gave for the work of the house of God: five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. 8 And those who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 The people rejoiced at their willing offering, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. And King David also rejoiced greatly. 10 David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, "Blessed are you, LORD, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting." 11 Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; indeed, everything in the heavens and on the earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all. 12 Wealth and honor come from you, and you rule over everything. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks and praise your glorious name. 14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give so generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 15 For we are strangers and temporary residents before you, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. 16 LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. In the uprightness of my heart, I have freely offered all these things; and now I have seen your people, who are present here, joyfully and willingly give to you.
  • 2 Chr 31:20-21 : 20 This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what was good, upright, and true before the Lord his God. 21 In everything he undertook in the service of the house of God, in observing the law and the commandments, and in seeking his God, he worked wholeheartedly and prospered.
  • 2 Chr 34:19-33 : 19 When the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his clothes in distress. 20 Then the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, the king's servant, saying: 21 "Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for those remaining in Israel and Judah about the words of this scroll that has been found. For great is the LORD's wrath that is poured out on us because our ancestors did not obey the words of the LORD by following everything written in this scroll." 22 So Hilkiah and those sent by the king went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tokhath, son of Hasrah, the keeper of the wardrobe. She was living in Jerusalem in the Second District, and they spoke with her there. 23 She said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Tell the man who sent you to me, 24 'This is what the LORD says: I am about to bring disaster on this place and its inhabitants, all the curses written in the book that was read in the presence of the king of Judah. 25 Because they have abandoned Me and burned incense to other gods, provoking Me to anger with all the works of their hands, My wrath will be poured out on this place, and it will not be quenched.' 26 But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the LORD, this is what you shall say to him: 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard: 27 Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and its inhabitants, and because you tore your clothes and wept in My presence, I have heard you,' declares the LORD. 28 'Now I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am about to bring on this place and its inhabitants.'" So they brought back this message to the king. 29 Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 30 The king went up to the house of the LORD with all the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the Levites, and all the people, from the greatest to the least. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD. 31 The king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD to follow the LORD, to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to carry out the words of the covenant written in this book. 32 He had everyone in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge themselves to it. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted according to the covenant of God, the God of their ancestors. 33 Josiah removed all the detestable idols from all the territories belonging to the Israelites, and he compelled everyone in Israel to serve the LORD their God. Throughout his reign, they did not turn aside from following the LORD, the God of their ancestors.

  • Mark 15:42-16:1 : 42 When it was already evening, because it was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath), 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the council, who was waiting for the kingdom of God, boldly went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was amazed that He was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Jesus down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb that had been cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching to see where He was placed. 1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could go and anoint Jesus' body.

But they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment. 1 On the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, carrying the spices they had prepared, and some other women were with them. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 But when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

He knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: 'Not one of his bones will be broken.' 37 And again another Scripture says, 'They will look on the one they have pierced.' 38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus but kept it secret because of fear of the Jews, asked Pilate for permission to take the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission, so he came and took the body. 39 Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight. 40 Taking the body of Jesus, they wrapped it in linen cloths along with the spices, as is the Jewish burial custom. 41 Now, there was a garden in the place where Jesus was crucified, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
