Crush the loins of his adversaries and those who hate him, so they do not rise again. 12 Of Benjamin he said: 'The beloved of the Lord will dwell securely beside Him; the Lord shields him all day long, and he rests between His shoulders.' 13 Of Joseph he said: 'May his land be blessed by the Lord with the choicest gifts of heaven, with the dew and the waters lying beneath.' 14 With the choicest fruits of the sun, and the rich yield of the months, 15 With the best from the ancient mountains and the precious things from the everlasting hills, 16 With the choicest gifts of the earth and its fullness, and with the favor of Him who dwelt in the burning bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph, on the crown of the prince among his brothers. 17 His majesty is like a firstborn bull, and his horns are like the horns of a wild ox. With them he gores the peoples, all the way to the ends of the earth. Rachel said, 'Very well, he can sleep with you tonight in exchange for your son’s mandrakes.' 16 When Jacob came in from the field that evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, 'You must come to me tonight, for I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.' So he slept with her that night. 17 God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. 18 Then Leah said, 'God has rewarded me because I gave my servant to my husband.' The sons of Beriah were Heber and Malkiel. 18 These were the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah. She bore these to Jacob—sixteen in all. 19 The sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife, were Joseph and Benjamin. 20 In the land of Egypt, Joseph’s two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, were born to him by Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. 21 The sons of Benjamin were Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. 22 These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob—fourteen in all. 23 The sons of Dan: Hushim. 24 The sons of Naphtali were Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

He stoops down, he crouches like a lion, and like a lioness—who dares to rouse him? 10 'The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come, and the obedience of the peoples shall be his.' 11 'He ties his foal to the vine, his donkey's colt to the choice vine; he washes his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.' 12 'His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.' 13 'Zebulun will live by the seashore and become a haven for ships; his border will extend toward Sidon.' 14 'Issachar is a strong donkey lying down between two burdens.' 15 'When he sees how good his resting place is, and how pleasant the land is, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and submit to forced labor.' 16 Dan will provide justice for his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. 17 Dan will be a serpent by the roadside, a viper along the path, that bites the horse's heels so that its rider falls backward. 18 I wait for your salvation, Lord. 19 Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heels. 20 Asher's food will be rich, and he will provide delicacies fit for a king. 21 Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful words. 22 Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall. 23 With bitterness, archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility. 24 But his bow remained steady, and his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel. 25 Because of the God of your father, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breast and womb. 26 The blessings of your father are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers. 27 Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he devours the prey, in the evening he divides the plunder. 28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing appropriate to him. 29 Then he gave them these instructions: 'I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite. 30 The cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite. 31 There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried, and there I buried Leah. 32 The field and the cave that is in it were purchased from the sons of Heth. 33 When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.
