  • 2 Chr 28:1-8 : 1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. However, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD like his ancestor David. 2 Instead, he followed the ways of the kings of Israel, and he even made cast images for the Baals. 3 He burned sacrifices in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom and sacrificed his sons in the fire, following the detestable practices of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. 4 He offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree. 5 Therefore, the LORD his God allowed him to fall into the hands of the king of Aram. They defeated him, took a great number of captives, and brought them to Damascus. He was also handed over to the king of Israel, who inflicted a heavy defeat on him. 6 Pekah son of Remaliah killed 120,000 warriors in Judah in one day because they had abandoned the LORD, the God of their ancestors. 7 Zichri, a mighty warrior from Ephraim, killed Maaseiah, the king’s son, as well as Azrikam, the palace officer, and Elkanah, the second to the king. 8 The Israelites took captive 200,000 people from their relatives—women, sons, and daughters. They also took a great amount of plunder and brought it to Samaria.
