  • 2 Chr 8:14 : 14 Solomon followed the ordinance of his father David by appointing the divisions of the priests for their duties and the Levites for their responsibilities, to praise and minister before the priests according to the daily schedule. He also appointed the gatekeepers in their divisions by each gate, for this was the command of David, the man of God.
  • 1 Chr 23:1-9 : 1 When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. 2 He gathered all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites. 3 The Levites, thirty years old and older, were counted by their heads, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand. 4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the Lord, six thousand were officers and judges, 5 four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments David had made for worship. 6 David organized them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 7 The Gershonites: Laadan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Laadan: Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel—three in all. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran—three. These were the heads of the families of Laadan. 10 The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah—four in all. 11 Jahath was the chief, and Ziza the second. Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; they were counted as one family with one duty. 12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel—four. 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart, he and his descendants forever, to consecrate the most holy things, to burn incense before the Lord, to serve Him, and to pronounce blessings in His name forever. 14 As for Moses, the man of God, his sons were included among the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The descendants of Gershom: Shebuel was the chief. 17 The descendants of Eliezer: Rehabiah was the chief. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous. 18 The descendants of Izhar: Shelomith was the chief. 19 The descendants of Hebron: Jeriah was the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 The descendants of Uzziel: Micah was the chief and Isshiah the second. 21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22 Eleazar died having no sons, only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them. 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth—three in all. 24 These were the sons of Levi by their families, the heads of the fathers' households, listed by name, individually numbered, who were doing the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and older. 25 For David said, 'The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.' 26 So now the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service.

Also, Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pelaliah, son of Amzi, son of Zechariah, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah. 13 And his relatives, heads of families, were 242 men. Amashsai son of Azarel, son of Ahzai, son of Meshillemoth, son of Immer. 14 And their associates, able men, numbered 128. Their officer was Zabdiel, son of the great ones. 15 From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, son of Bunni. 16 And Shabbethai and Jozabad, from the leaders of the Levites, were in charge of the external work for the house of God. 17 Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zabdi, son of Asaph, led the thanksgiving and prayer. Bakbukiah was next to him among his brothers, and Abda son of Shammua, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun. 18 The total number of Levites in the holy city was 284. 19 The gatekeepers were Akkub, Talmon, and their brothers who guarded the gates, numbering 172. 20 The rest of the Israelites, the priests, and the Levites lived in all the cities of Judah, each on their own inheritance.
  • 1 Chr 9:10-34 : 10 From the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jachin. 11 Azariah, son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, was the leader of the house of God. 12 Adaiah, son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, and Maasai, son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer. 13 And their relatives, heads of their ancestral houses, totaled 1,760—mighty men of ability for the work of the house of God. 14 From the Levites: Shemaiah, son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, from the descendants of Merari. 15 Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah, son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph. 16 Obadiah, son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah, son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites. 17 The gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brother Shallum, who was the chief. 18 Up to now, these gatekeepers have been stationed at the King’s Gate on the east. They belonged to the divisions of the Levites. 19 Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his relatives, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of service, guarding the thresholds of the tent, as their ancestors had guarded the entrance to the camp of the Lord. 20 Phinehas son of Eleazar was the leader over them formerly, and the Lord was with him. 21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 22 The total number of those chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds was 212. They were registered by their genealogies in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their trusted office. 23 They and their descendants were assigned to guard the gates of the house of the Lord—the house of the tent—by rotations. 24 The gatekeepers were positioned on all four sides: east, west, north, and south. 25 Their relatives in their villages were required to come in for seven days at regular intervals to join them. 26 For these four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the chambers and the treasuries of the house of God because of their faithfulness. 27 They spent the night around the house of God because they were responsible for its guard and for opening it each morning. 28 Some of them were in charge of the vessels used in worship. They were responsible for bringing them in and taking them out by count. 29 Others of them were appointed over the furniture, all the sacred utensils, as well as the fine flour, wine, oil, incense, and spices. 30 Some of the priests prepared the mix of spices for the ointments. 31 Mattithiah, a Levite and the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the task of preparing the flat cakes in faithfulness. 32 Some of the Kohathites, their relatives, were assigned to prepare the showbread every Sabbath. 33 These were the singers, heads of the families of the Levites, who lived in the chambers and were free from other duties, as they were engaged in their work day and night. 34 These were the heads of the Levite families, chiefs in their genealogies, and they lived in Jerusalem.
