  • Gen 45:1-9 : 1 Joseph could no longer hold back his emotions in front of everyone standing near him, so he called out, 'Have everyone leave my presence!' No one remained with him when Joseph revealed himself to his brothers. 2 Joseph wept so loudly as he raised his voice in crying that the Egyptians heard it, and Pharaoh’s household also heard about it. 3 Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?' But his brothers could not answer him because they were so shocked and dismayed by his presence. 4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, 'Please come closer to me.' They came closer, and he said, 'I am Joseph, your brother, the one you sold into Egypt.' 5 Now, do not be distressed or angry with yourselves for selling me here, because God sent me ahead of you to preserve life. 6 For two years now, there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years, there will be no plowing or harvesting. 7 But God sent me ahead of you to establish a remnant for you on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8 So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me like a father to Pharaoh, lord over all his household, and a ruler throughout Egypt. 9 Hurry and go up to my father and tell him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord over all Egypt. Come down to me; do not delay.’ 10 You shall dwell in the land of Goshen and be near me—you, your children, your grandchildren, your flocks, your herds, and everything you have. 11 I will provide for you there, because there are still five years of famine to come, so that neither you, your household, nor anything that belongs to you will fall into poverty. 12 Look, your own eyes and the eyes of my brother Benjamin can see that it is my own mouth speaking to you. 13 Tell my father about all the honor that I have in Egypt and everything you have seen. Hurry and bring my father down here. 14 Then he threw himself on the neck of his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin wept on his neck. 15 Joseph kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward, his brothers talked with him. 16 The news reached Pharaoh' palace 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Tell your brothers to do this: Load your animals and go back to the land of Canaan.' 18 Then bring your father and your households and come back to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat from the fat of the land.
  • Gen 46:31-47:10 : 31 Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, 'I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, "My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me.'" 32 The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks, herds, and everything they own. 33 'When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, "What is your occupation?"' 34 You should answer, 'Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.' Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians. 1 So Joseph went and told Pharaoh, 'My father, my brothers, their flocks, their herds, and everything they own have come from the land of Canaan, and they are now in the region of Goshen.' 2 Joseph selected five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh. 3 Pharaoh asked Joseph’s brothers, 'What is your occupation?' and they replied to Pharaoh, 'Your servants are shepherds, just as our fathers were.' 4 They also said to Pharaoh, 'We have come to sojourn in this land because there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks, for the famine in the land of Canaan is severe. Please allow your servants to settle in the region of Goshen.' 5 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Your father and brothers have come to you.' 6 'The land of Egypt is before you. Settle your father and brothers in the best part of the land, in Goshen. And if you know any among them who are capable men, appoint them as overseers of my livestock.' 7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh. 8 Pharaoh asked Jacob, 'How many years have you lived?'' 9 Jacob replied to Pharaoh, 'The days of my sojourning have been one hundred thirty years. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not compare to the years of the lives of my fathers during their sojourning.' 10 Then Jacob blessed Pharaoh and departed from his presence.
