Because he was found to have an extraordinary spirit, knowledge, intelligence, and the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems, this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, can solve these mysteries. Now summon Daniel, and he will give the interpretation.
So Daniel was brought before the king, and the king said to him, 'Are you Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah?'
I have heard about you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that you have enlightenment, insight, and extraordinary wisdom.
Now, the wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing and make its interpretation known to me, but they could not explain the meaning.
But I have heard that you can give interpretations and solve problems. If you can read this writing and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple, have a gold chain placed around your neck, and be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.
Then Daniel answered the king, 'You may keep your gifts or give your rewards to someone else; nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means.'
'O king, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty, greatness, glory, and splendor.'
