They did as the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites. 23 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 This applies to the Levites: From twenty-five years old and upward, they shall enter to perform the work of the tent of meeting. 25 But at fifty years old, they must retire from regular service and shall no longer work. 26 Instead, they may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting, but they themselves must no longer do the work. This is how you are to assign the Levites to their responsibilities.

Also, you and your sons with you will bear the responsibility for offenses connected to your priesthood.' 2 Bring your brothers from the tribe of Levi, your ancestral tribe, to join you and assist you while you and your sons serve before the tent of the testimony. 3 They are to guard your duties and the duties of the entire tent, but they must not come near the sacred furnishings or the altar, so they will not die—and neither will you. 4 They are to join you and take responsibility for the care of the tent of meeting, performing all its service. No unauthorized person may come near you. 5 You are to perform the duties of the sanctuary and the altar, so that no further wrath will fall on the Israelites. 6 I myself have chosen your brothers, the Levites, from among the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD for their service at the tent of meeting. 7 But you and your sons with you are to diligently guard your priestly duties for every aspect of the altar and the area behind the curtain. I have given your priesthood to you as a service of gift. Any unauthorized person who approaches shall be put to death. 8 The LORD said to Aaron, 'See, I have placed you in charge of the contributions given to me and all the sacred offerings of the Israelites. I give them to you and your sons as a portion, a permanent statute.' 9 'You are to receive the most holy offerings, including every grain offering, sin offering, and guilt offering that they return to me. These most holy offerings belong to you and your sons.' 10 'You must eat it in a most holy place. Every male may eat it; it is holy to you.' 11 'This also is yours: the contributions and wave offerings presented by the Israelites. I give these to you, your sons, and your daughters with you as a perpetual ordinance. Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean may eat of it.' 12 'I give you the finest olive oil, new wine, and grain—the firstfruits they offer to the LORD.' 13 'The first ripe produce of all that is in their land, which they bring to the LORD, shall be yours. Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean may eat of it.' 14 'Everything in Israel that is devoted to the LORD shall be yours.' 15 Every firstborn that opens the womb, of all flesh offered to the LORD, whether human or animal, shall belong to you. However, you must surely redeem the firstborn of humans and redeem the firstborn of unclean animals. 16 When they are a month old, you shall redeem them at your valuation, which is five shekels of silver, measured by the sanctuary shekel—twenty gerahs make a shekel. 17 But you must not redeem the firstborn of an ox, a sheep, or a goat. They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar and burn their fat as a fire offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. 18 Their meat shall be yours, just like the breast of the wave offering and the right thigh are yours. 19 All the holy contributions the Israelites present to the LORD, I give to you, your sons, and your daughters with you as a perpetual ordinance. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD for you and your descendants with you. 20 The LORD said to Aaron: You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and inheritance among the Israelites. 21 To the Levites, I have given every tithe in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting. 22 From now on, the Israelites must not go near the tent of meeting, or they will bear the consequences of their sin and die. 23 The Levites shall perform the duties of the tent of meeting and bear the responsibility for their sins. This is a perpetual ordinance for your generations, but they shall not have any inheritance among the Israelites. 24 For I have given the Levites the tithes that the Israelites present as a contribution to the LORD as their inheritance. That is why I told them they shall have no inheritance among the Israelites. 25 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 26 Speak to the Levites and say to them: When you receive from the Israelites the tithe I have given you as your inheritance, you must present a contribution from it to the LORD—a tithe of the tithe. 27 Your contribution will be credited to you as though it were the grain from the threshing floor or the fullness from the wine press. 28 In the same way, you shall also present an offering to the LORD from all the tithes you receive from the Israelites. From these, you are to give the LORD’s portion to Aaron the priest. 29 Out of all your gifts, you must present the very best part, the sacred portion, as an offering to the LORD. 30 Say to the Levites: When you present the best of it, it will be credited to you, as if it were the produce of the threshing floor and the produce of the wine press. 31 You and your households may eat it anywhere, as it is your wages in return for your service in the tent of meeting. 32 You will not bear any sin by bringing the best of it, but you must not desecrate the sacred gifts of the Israelites, or you will die.

They shall be made of fine wheat flour. 3 Place them in one basket, and bring them in the basket, along with the bull and the two rams. 4 Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, and wash them with water. 5 Take the garments and clothe Aaron with the tunic, the robe of the ephod, the ephod itself, and the breastpiece. Fasten the ephod for him with its skillfully woven waistband. 6 Then place the turban on his head and put the sacred crown on the turban. 7 Take the anointing oil and pour it on his head, anointing him. 8 Then bring his sons forward and clothe them with tunics. 9 Gird them with sashes, both Aaron and his sons, and fasten caps on their heads. The priesthood shall be theirs by a lasting statute. In this way, you shall ordain Aaron and his sons. 10 Bring the bull to the front of the Tent of Meeting, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. 11 Slaughter the bull before the Lord at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 12 Take some of the bull’s blood, and with your finger, put it on the horns of the altar. Pour out all the remaining blood at the base of the altar. 13 Then take all the fat that covers the entrails, the lobe of the liver, the two kidneys with the fat on them, and burn them on the altar. 14 But burn the flesh of the bull, its hide, and its refuse outside the camp. It is a sin offering. 15 Take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. 16 Slaughter the ram, take its blood, and sprinkle it around the altar. 17 Cut the ram into pieces, wash its entrails and legs, and place them with its head and other pieces. 18 Then burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the Lord, a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the Lord. 19 Then take the second ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. 20 Slaughter the ram, take some of its blood, and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, on the lobes of his sons’ right ears, and on the thumbs of their right hands and the big toes of their right feet. Sprinkle the remaining blood around the altar. 21 Take some of the blood on the altar and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments, and also on his sons and their garments. In this way, Aaron, his sons, and their garments will be consecrated. 22 Take the fat of the ram, the fat tail, the fat that covers the entrails, the lobe of the liver, the two kidneys with the fat on them, and the right thigh—for it is a ram of ordination. 23 Along with one loaf of bread, one cake made with oil, and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread set before the Lord. 24 You shall place all of these in the hands of Aaron and his sons, and wave them as a wave offering before the Lord. 25 Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar along with the burnt offering as a pleasing aroma before the Lord, an offering made by fire to the Lord. 26 Take the breast of the ram used for Aaron’s ordination and wave it as a wave offering before the Lord. This portion will be your share. 27 Consecrate the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution that were waved and lifted up from the ram of ordination, given for Aaron and his sons. 28 This will be a perpetual statute for Aaron and his sons from the Israelites, for it is a contribution. It will be a contribution from their peace offerings, their contribution to the Lord. 29 The sacred garments of Aaron shall belong to his descendants after him, so that they can be anointed and ordained in them. 30 The son who succeeds him as priest shall wear them for seven days when he enters the Tent of Meeting to minister in the Holy Place. 31 You shall take the ram of ordination and boil its meat in a holy place. 32 Aaron and his sons shall eat the meat of the ram and the bread that is in the basket at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 33 They shall eat those things by which atonement was made to consecrate and sanctify them. But no outsider shall eat them, because they are holy. 34 If any of the meat of ordination or bread is left until morning, you must burn it, for it may not be eaten because it is holy. 35 Do for Aaron and his sons everything I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them. 36 Each day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement. Purify the altar when you make atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate it. 37 For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will become most holy, and whatever touches the altar will be holy.
