  • 1 Sam 15:22-23 : 22 Then Samuel said, 'Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.' 23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and defiance is like iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has rejected you as king.
  • 1 Sam 16:1 : 1 The LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen a king for myself among his sons."
  • 1 Sam 31:1-7 : 1 The Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before them. Many fell slain on Mount Gilboa. 2 The Philistines closely pursued Saul and his sons, and they killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua, Saul's sons. 3 The battle grew fierce against Saul. The archers found him, and he was badly wounded by them. 4 Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, 'Draw your sword and pierce me with it, or these uncircumcised men will come and abuse me.' But his armor-bearer was too afraid and refused. So Saul took his sword and fell on it. 5 When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died with him. 6 So Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his men died together that same day. 7 When the Israelites on the other side of the valley and the Jordan saw that Israel's army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. Then the Philistines came and occupied them.
  • 1 Kgs 12:15-16 : 15 So the king refused to listen to the people, for this turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill the word spoken by the LORD through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat. 16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king: "What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse's son? To your tents, Israel! Look after your own house, David!" So the Israelites went home.
  • 1 Kgs 12:26-32 : 26 Jeroboam said to himself, "The kingdom will now likely return to the house of David. 27 If these people go up to worship at the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem, they will again give their allegiance to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah. They will kill me and return to King Rehoboam of Judah. 28 After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. He said to the people, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt. 29 He set up one in Bethel, and the other in Dan. 30 And this thing became a sin; the people came to worship the one at Bethel and went as far as Dan to worship the other. 31 Jeroboam also built shrines on high places and appointed priests from all sorts of people, even though they were not Levites. 32 He instituted a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the festival held in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar. He did this in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves he had made. And there at Bethel he installed priests for the high places he had made.
  • 1 Kgs 14:7-9 : 7 Go and tell Jeroboam, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I raised you up from among the people and appointed you ruler over My people Israel. 8 I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes. 9 You have done more evil than all who came before you. You have gone and made other gods and cast images to provoke Me to anger, and you have turned your back on Me. 10 Therefore, I am bringing disaster on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off every male in Jeroboam’s family, whether slave or free in Israel. I will sweep away the house of Jeroboam as one sweeps away dung until it is gone. 11 Anyone in Jeroboam’s family who dies in the city will be eaten by dogs; and anyone who dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the sky, for the LORD has spoken. 12 Now, get up and go back to your house. When you set foot in the city, the boy will die. 13 All Israel will mourn him and bury him, for he alone of Jeroboam's family will come to the grave. He is the only one in whom the LORD, the God of Israel, found something good within the house of Jeroboam. 14 The LORD will raise up a king over Israel who will cut off the house of Jeroboam. This is the day! What indeed is even now happening! 15 The LORD will strike Israel as a reed sways in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land that He gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they made Asherah poles, angering the LORD. 16 He will give up Israel because of the sins Jeroboam committed and made Israel commit.
  • 2 Kgs 17:1-4 : 1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz, king of Judah, Hoshea son of Elah became king over Israel in Samaria, and he ruled for nine years. 2 He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, but not like the kings of Israel who came before him. 3 Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, came up against him, and Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute. 4 But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was conspiring against him, for Hoshea had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and had not paid tribute to the king of Assyria as he had done year by year. Therefore, the king of Assyria detained him and bound him in prison.
  • Prov 28:2 : 2 When a land is in rebellion, it has many rulers, but with a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability will endure.

  • Hos 10:7 : 7 Samaria’s king will be destroyed, swept away like a twig on the surface of water.
  • 1 Sam 8:7-9 : 7 The LORD said to Samuel, 'Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. It is not you they have rejected but they have rejected me as their king. 8 Just as they have done to me from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day—forsaking me and serving other gods—so they are also doing to you. 9 Now then, listen to them, but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will demand.'
