  • 1 Chr 23:1-9 : 1 When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. 2 He gathered all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites. 3 The Levites, thirty years old and older, were counted by their heads, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand. 4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the Lord, six thousand were officers and judges, 5 four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments David had made for worship. 6 David organized them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 7 The Gershonites: Laadan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Laadan: Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel—three in all. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran—three. These were the heads of the families of Laadan. 10 The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah—four in all. 11 Jahath was the chief, and Ziza the second. Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; they were counted as one family with one duty. 12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel—four. 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart, he and his descendants forever, to consecrate the most holy things, to burn incense before the Lord, to serve Him, and to pronounce blessings in His name forever. 14 As for Moses, the man of God, his sons were included among the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The descendants of Gershom: Shebuel was the chief. 17 The descendants of Eliezer: Rehabiah was the chief. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous. 18 The descendants of Izhar: Shelomith was the chief. 19 The descendants of Hebron: Jeriah was the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 The descendants of Uzziel: Micah was the chief and Isshiah the second. 21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22 Eleazar died having no sons, only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them. 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth—three in all. 24 These were the sons of Levi by their families, the heads of the fathers' households, listed by name, individually numbered, who were doing the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and older. 25 For David said, 'The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.' 26 So now the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service. 27 According to the last instructions of David, the number of the Levites was from twenty years old and upward. 28 Their job was to assist the descendants of Aaron in the service of the house of the Lord, overseeing the courtyards, the rooms, the ceremonial cleansing of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God. 29 They were also responsible for the bread of the Presence, the fine flour for the grain offerings, the unleavened wafers, the baking of offerings in the pan, the well-mixed offerings, and all measures of quantity and size. 30 They were to stand every morning to give thanks and praise to the Lord, and also every evening. 31 They were to offer all burnt offerings to the Lord on the sabbaths, the new moons, and the appointed festivals as prescribed, continually before the Lord. 32 In this way they fulfilled their duty to care for the Tent of Meeting, the holy place, and their brothers, the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the house of the Lord.

These sons of Asaph were under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the guidance of the king. 3 From Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun were Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, Mattithiah—six in total. They were under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the harp, giving thanks and praising the LORD. 4 From Heman: the sons of Heman were Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth. 5 All these were the sons of Heman, the king's seer, who was entrusted with the words of God to exalt his power. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. 6 All these men were under their father's direction for the music in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, lyres, and harps for the service of the house of God. They were under the direction of the king, Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman. 7 The number of them, along with their relatives, all trained and skilled in music for the LORD, was 288. 8 They cast lots for their duties, young and old alike, teacher as well as student. 9 The first lot came out for Asaph's son Joseph, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 10 The second lot came out for Gedaliah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 11 The third lot came out for Zaccur, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 12 The fourth lot came out for Izri, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 13 The fifth lot came out for Nethaniah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 14 The sixth lot came out for Bukkiah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 15 The seventh lot came out for Jesharelah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 16 The ninth lot came out for Mattaniah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 17 The tenth lot came out for Shimei, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 18 The eleventh lot came out for Azarel, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 19 The twelfth lot came out for Hashabiah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 20 The thirteenth lot came out for Shubael, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 21 The fourteenth lot came out for Mattithiah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 22 The fifteenth lot came out for Jeremoth, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 23 The sixteenth lot came out for Hananiah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 24 The seventeenth lot came out for Joshbekashah, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 25 The eighteenth lot came out for Hanani, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all. 26 The nineteenth lot came out for Mallothi, and his sons and relatives—twelve in all.
