7The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them payment for divination. They came to Balaam and told him Balak's message.
8Balaam said to them, 'Spend the night here, and I will bring back a word to you, as the LORD speaks to me.' So the Moabite leaders stayed with Balaam.
9Then God came to Balaam and asked, 'Who are these men with you?'
10Balaam said to God, 'Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent this message to me:
15Balaam said to Balak, 'Stay here beside your burnt offering while I meet the LORD over there.'
16The LORD met with Balaam and put a message in his mouth, saying, 'Return to Balak and speak these words.'
17So Balaam returned to Balak, who was standing beside his burnt offering with the officials of Moab. Balak asked him, 'What did the LORD say?'
18Then Balaam proclaimed his oracle, saying: 'Stand up, Balak, and listen; hear me, son of Zippor!'
27Then Balak said to Balaam, 'Come, let me take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God to let you curse them for me from there.'
28So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, which overlooks the wasteland.
29Balaam said to Balak, 'Build for me seven altars here and prepare seven bulls and seven rams.'
30Balak did as Balaam said, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
16They came to Balaam and said to him, 'This is what Balak son of Zippor says: Please do not let anything prevent you from coming to me.'
17'For I will reward you very handsomely and will do whatever you say. So please come and put a curse on these people for me.'
18But Balaam answered Balak's servants, 'Even if Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the command of the LORD my God to do anything small or great.'
19Now please stay here tonight as well, so that I may find out what else the LORD may say to me.
20That night God came to Balaam and said, 'Since these men have come to summon you, go with them. But do only what I tell you.'
21Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the Moabite officials.
10Then Balak's anger burned against Balaam, and he struck his hands together. He said to Balaam, 'I summoned you to curse my enemies, but instead, you have blessed them three times!'
11Now leave and go home! I said I would reward you handsomely, but the LORD has kept you from being rewarded.'
12Balaam answered Balak, 'Did I not tell your messengers that you sent to me,'

2Balak did as Balaam said, and Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
3Balaam said to Balak, 'Stand beside your burnt offering while I go. Perhaps the LORD will meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you.' Then he went to a barren height.
5The LORD put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said, 'Go back to Balak and speak this to him.'
6He returned to Balak, and there he was, standing beside his burnt offering along with all the officials of Moab.
7Then Balaam uttered his oracle and said: 'From Aram Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains: "Come, curse Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel."'
9Then Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you.
13Then Balak said to him, 'Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will see only a part of them, not all of them. From there, curse them for me.'
25Then Balak said to Balaam, 'If you won’t curse them for me, then at least don’t bless them!'
