9Then Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you.

23Now the Lord, the God of Israel, has driven out the Amorites before His people Israel. Would you now take possession of it?
24Do you not take what your god Chemosh gives you? Likewise, we will take possession of whatever the Lord our God has driven out before us.
26While Israel lived in Heshbon and its villages, in Aroer and its villages, and in all the towns along the Arnon for three hundred years, why didn’t you recover them during that time?
27I have not wronged you, but you are doing me wrong by waging war against me. May the Lord, the Judge, judge today between the Israelites and the Ammonites.
11Balak said to Balaam, 'What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but you have done nothing but bless them!'
7Then Balaam uttered his oracle and said: 'From Aram Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains: "Come, curse Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel."'
8How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those the LORD has not denounced?
17So Balaam returned to Balak, who was standing beside his burnt offering with the officials of Moab. Balak asked him, 'What did the LORD say?'

10Balaam said to God, 'Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent this message to me:
11'Look, a people that came out of Egypt covers the face of the land. Now, come and curse them for me. Perhaps I will be able to fight against them and drive them out.'
4No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the LORD, even to the tenth generation; none of their descendants may ever enter the assembly of the LORD.
10'But now, here are the men from Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whose land you would not let Israel invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them.'
5My people, remember what Balak king of Moab devised and what Balaam son of Beor answered him, from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord.
25Then Balak said to Balaam, 'If you won’t curse them for me, then at least don’t bless them!'
36When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the Moabite city on the Arnon border, at the edge of his territory.
37Balak said to Balaam, 'Did I not send messengers to you to summon you? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I really unable to reward you?
9The LORD said to me, ‘Do not harass Moab or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any part of their land as a possession. I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a possession.'
10Then Balak's anger burned against Balaam, and he struck his hands together. He said to Balaam, 'I summoned you to curse my enemies, but instead, you have blessed them three times!'
11Now leave and go home! I said I would reward you handsomely, but the LORD has kept you from being rewarded.'
12Balaam answered Balak, 'Did I not tell your messengers that you sent to me,'
13Then Balak said to him, 'Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will see only a part of them, not all of them. From there, curse them for me.'
30The donkey said to Balaam, 'Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this very day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?' 'No,' he replied.
22In addition to those slain, the Israelites also killed Balaam son of Beor, the diviner, with the sword.
14So the Moabite leaders returned to Balak and said, 'Balaam refused to come with us.'
15Then Balak sent other officials, more numerous and more distinguished than the first.
