2And Joab sent to Tekoa, and brought from there a wise woman, and said to her, I pray you, pretend to be a mourner, and put on mourning clothes now, and do not anoint yourself with oil, but be like a woman who has mourned a long time for the dead:
3And come to the king, and speak in this manner to him. So Joab put words in her mouth.
6And Absalom did this to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
5And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains orders concerning Absalom.
14Then Joab said, I cannot linger thus with you. And he took three spears in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was still alive in the midst of the oak.
15And ten young men who carried Joab's armor surrounded and struck Absalom, and killed him.

28Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Watch now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Strike Amnon; then kill him, do not fear: have not I commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant.
34And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar; and the general of the king's army was Joab.
29And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me your servant, I saw a great commotion, but I did not know what it was.
11And one of Joab's men stood by Amasa and said, Whoever favors Joab and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab.
30And it came to pass, while they were on the way, that news came to David, saying, Absalom has slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.
36And it came to pass, as soon as he had finished speaking, that behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept bitterly.
4Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. So Joab went out and went throughout all Israel, and came back to Jerusalem.

32And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men, the king's sons; for only Amnon is dead: for by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day he forced his sister Tamar.
