1There was a certain man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2A devout man, and one who feared God with all his household, who gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.

6He is staying with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the seaside: he will tell you what you ought to do.
7And when the angel who spoke to Cornelius had departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier who waited on him continually;
8And when he had declared all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9On the next day, as they went on their journey and neared the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10And he became very hungry, and wanted to eat: but while they prepared, he fell into a trance,
11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending to him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12In which were all kinds of four-footed beasts of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.
13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.
14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.
15And the voice spoke to him again the second time, What God has cleansed, do not call common.
16This was done three times: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
29Therefore I came without objection as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what reason you have sent for me?
30And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31And said, Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your alms are remembered in the sight of God.
32Send therefore to Joppa, and call here Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is staying in the house of one Simon a tanner by the seaside: when he comes, he will speak to you.
16But Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were amazed.
4But Peter explained the matter from the beginning and described it in order to them, saying,
5I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me.
6Upon which when I had fixed my eyes, I considered and saw four-footed animals of the earth, and wild beasts, and crawling creatures, and birds of the air.
7And I heard a voice saying to me, Arise, Peter; kill and eat.
9And he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.
10When they had passed the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them by itself; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.
11And when Peter had come to himself, he said, 'Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent his angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people.'
44While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.
45And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.
46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then Peter answered,
14When she recognized Peter's voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate.
18Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter.
7And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up and said to them, Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God made a choice among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.
10And they knew that it was he who sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
