Are you not the one who cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon? 10 Are you not the one who dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over? 11 Therefore the redeemed of the LORD will return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy will be upon their heads: they will obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning will flee away. 12 I, even I, am he who comforts you: who are you, that you should be afraid of a man who will die, and of the son of man who will be made like grass; 13 And you forget the LORD your Maker, who stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and you fear continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor? 14 The captive exile hastens to be loosed, and that he should not die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail. 15 But I am the LORD your God, who divided the sea, whose waves roared: the LORD of hosts is his name. 16 And I have put my words in your mouth, and I have covered you in the shadow of my hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Zion, 'You are my people.' 17 Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, who have drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; you have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out. 18 There is none to guide her among all the sons she has brought forth; neither is there any who takes her by the hand of all the sons she has raised. 19 These two things have come upon you; who shall feel sorry for you? Desolation and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort you? 20 Your sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, like a wild bull in a net: they are full of the fury of the LORD, the rebuke of your God. 21 Therefore hear now this, you afflicted, and drunk, but not with wine: 22 Thus says your Lord, the LORD, your God who pleads the cause of his people, 'Behold, I have taken from your hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; you shall no more drink it again: 23 But I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you; who have said to your soul, 'Bow down, that we may go over:' and you have laid your body like the ground, and like the street, for those who went over.'

And I said, You shall call me, My Father; and shall not turn away from me. 20 Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, so have you dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, says the LORD. 21 A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God. 22 Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come to you; for you are the LORD our God. 23 Truly, in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills and from the multitude of mountains: truly, in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel. 24 For shame has devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

is he a pleasant child? for since I spoke against him, I earnestly remember him still: therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, says the LORD. 21 Set up waymarks, make high heaps: set your heart toward the highway, the way you came: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these your cities. 22 How long will you wander about, O backsliding daughter?
