But while their meat was yet in their mouths, 31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and struck down the chosen men of Israel. 32 For all this they sinned still, and did not believe for his wondrous works. 33 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble. 34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and sought diligently after God. 35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. 36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. 37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant. 38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and did not destroy them: yes, many a time he turned away his anger, and did not stir up all his wrath. 39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passes away, and comes not again. 40 How often did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! 41 Yes, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. 42 They did not remember his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy. 43 How he had worked his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: 44 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their streams, that they could not drink. 45 He sent various sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. 46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labor unto the locust. 47 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with frost. 48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. 49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them. 50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; 51 And struck all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the dwellings of Ham: 52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. 53 And he led them on safely, so that they did not fear: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies. 54 And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had acquired. 55 He cast out the nations also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents. 56 Yet they tempted and provoked the Most High God, and did not keep his testimonies: 57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow. 58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their carved images. 59 When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel: 60 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men; 61 And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand. 62 He gave his people over also to the sword; and was angry with his inheritance. 63 The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given in marriage. 64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation. 65 Then the Lord awoke as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts because of wine. 66 And he struck his enemies in the rear: he put them to a perpetual reproach. 67 Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and did not choose the tribe of Ephraim: 68 But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved. 69 And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he has established forever. 70 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: 71 From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. 72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

  • Dan 9:6-9 : 6 Neither have we listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7 O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us belongs confusion of face, as it is this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, those near and those far off, through all the countries where You have driven them, because of their trespass which they have trespassed against You. 8 O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against You. 9 To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him; 10 Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. 11 Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, even by departing, that they might not obey Your voice; therefore, the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him. 12 And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great calamity: for under the whole heaven, such as has been done upon Jerusalem has not been done. 13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this calamity has come upon us: yet we have not made our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth. 14 Therefore the LORD has watched over the calamity, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all His works which He does: for we have not obeyed His voice. 15 And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made Yourself a name, as it is this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.

  • Ps 105:1-9 : 1 O give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. 2 Sing to him, sing psalms to him: talk of all his wondrous works. 3 Glory in his holy name: let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 4 Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face continually. 5 Remember his marvelous works that he has done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; 6 O seed of Abraham his servant, you children of Jacob his chosen. 7 He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. 8 He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. 9 The covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac; 10 And confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: 11 Saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: 12 When they were but a few men in number; yes, very few, and strangers in it. 13 When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; 14 He allowed no man to do them wrong: yes, he reproved kings for their sakes; 15 Saying, Do not touch my anointed, and do my prophets no harm. 16 Moreover, he called for a famine upon the land: he broke the whole support of bread. 17 He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold for a servant: 18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: 19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tested him. 20 The king sent and released him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. 21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his possessions: 22 To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his elders wisdom. 23 Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. 24 And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies. 25 He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal deceitfully with his servants. 26 He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. 27 They showed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. 28 He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they did not rebel against his word. 29 He turned their waters into blood, and killed their fish. 30 Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. 31 He spoke, and there came various sorts of flies, and lice in all their territory. 32 He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land. 33 He struck their vines also and their fig trees; and broke the trees of their territory. 34 He spoke, and the locusts came, and caterpillars, and that without number, 35 And ate up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground. 36 He struck also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength. 37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. 38 Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. 39 He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. 40 The people asked, and he brought quail, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. 41 He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river. 42 For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant. 43 And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness: 44 And gave them the lands of the nations: and they inherited the labor of the people; 45 That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise the LORD.
  • Neh 9:7-9 : 7 You are the LORD God, who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans, and gave him the name Abraham; 8 You found his heart faithful before You, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it to his descendants. And You have fulfilled Your words, for You are righteous; 9 And You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heard their cry by the Red Sea; 10 You showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his servants, and against all the people of his land. For You knew they acted proudly against them. So You made a name for Yourself, as it is this day. 11 You divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and You threw their pursuers into the depths, as a stone into the mighty waters. 12 Moreover, You led them by day with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire, to give them light on the way they should go. 13 You came down also on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, and gave them just statutes and true laws, good statutes and commandments. 14 You made known to them Your holy Sabbath, and commanded them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses Your servant. 15 You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger, and brought forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promised them that they would go in to possess the land which You had sworn to give them. 16 But they and our forefathers acted proudly, hardened their necks, and did not heed Your commandments. 17 They refused to obey, and were not mindful of Your wonders that You did among them. But they hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a leader to return to their bondage. But You are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in kindness, and did not forsake them. 18 Even when they made a molten calf for themselves, and said, 'This is your God that brought you up out of Egypt,' and committed great provocations, 19 Yet in Your overwhelming mercies, You did not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud did not depart from them by day to lead them on the way, nor the pillar of fire by night to show them light and the way they should go. 20 You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, and did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst. 21 For forty years You sustained them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell. 22 Moreover, You gave them kingdoms and nations, and divided them into districts: So they possessed the land of Sihon, the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan. 23 You also multiplied their children as the stars of heaven, and brought them into the land which You had promised to their forefathers they would enter and possess. 24 So the children entered and possessed the land; You subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hands, with their kings and the people of the land, so that they might do with them as they wished. 25 And they captured fortified cities and a fertile land, and took possession of houses full of all goods, wells already dug, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate and were filled and became fat, and delighted themselves in Your great goodness. 26 Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against You, cast Your law behind their backs, and killed Your prophets who testified against them, to turn them back to You, and they performed great provocations. 27 Therefore You delivered them into the hand of their enemies, who oppressed them. And in the time of their trouble, when they cried to You, You heard from heaven; and according to Your manifold mercies, You gave them deliverers who saved them from the hand of their enemies. 28 But after they had rest, they did evil again before You; therefore You abandoned them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them. Yet when they returned and cried out to You, You heard from heaven, and many times delivered them according to Your mercies. 29 You testified against them, that You might bring them back to Your law. Yet they acted proudly and did not heed Your commandments but sinned against Your judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them. And they shrugged their shoulders, stiffened their necks, and would not hear. 30 Yet for many years You had patience with them and testified against them by Your Spirit in Your prophets. Yet they would not give ear; therefore, You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands. 31 Nevertheless, in Your great mercies, You did not utterly consume them nor forsake them; for You are a gracious and merciful God. 32 Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and mercy, do not let all the hardship seem little before You that has come upon us, our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our forefathers, and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until this day. 33 However, You are just in all that has come upon us; for You have done right, but we have acted wickedly. 34 Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our forefathers kept Your law, nor heeded Your commandments and Your testimonies, which You testified against them. 35 For they have not served You in their kingdom, or in the vast and fertile land that You gave them, nor did they turn from their wicked works. 36 Here we are, servants today! And the land that You gave to our forefathers to eat its fruit and its bounty, here we are, servants in it. 37 And it yields much increase to the kings You have set over us because of our sins; also, they have dominion over our bodies and our cattle at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.
