  • Ezek 24:1-9 : 1 Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 Son of man, write the name of the day, even this same day: the king of Babylon has laid siege against Jerusalem this very day. 3 And tell a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it: 4 Gather its pieces into it, every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. 5 Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe its bones in it. 6 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is in it, and whose scum has not gone out! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it. 7 For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it on the top of a rock; she did not pour it on the ground, to cover it with dust; 8 That it might cause fury to come up and take vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered. 9 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pyre large. 10 Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned. 11 Then set it empty on its coals, that its bronze may be hot and may burn, and that its filthiness may be melted in it, that its scum may be consumed. 12 She has wearied herself with lies, and her great scum did not go out of her: her scum shall be in the fire. 13 In your filthiness is depravity: because I have purged you, and you were not purged, you shall not be purged of your filthiness anymore, until I have caused my fury to rest upon you. 14 I the LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to your ways, and according to your deeds, they shall judge you, says the Lord GOD. 15 Also the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 16 Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with a stroke: yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, nor shall your tears run down. 17 Refrain from crying, make no mourning for the dead, bind the turban of your head upon you, and put on your shoes upon your feet, and do not cover your lips, and do not eat the bread of men. 18 So I spoke to the people in the morning: and at evening my wife died; and in the morning I did as I was commanded. 19 And the people said to me, Will you not tell us what these things mean to us, that you are doing so? 20 Then I answered them, The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 21 Speak to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and the delight your soul pities; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left shall fall by the sword. 22 And you shall do as I have done: you shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men. 23 And your turbans shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: you shall not mourn nor weep; but you shall waste away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another. 24 Thus Ezekiel is to you a sign: according to all that he has done, you shall do: and when this comes, you shall know that I am the Lord GOD. 25 Also, you, son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that to which they set their minds, their sons and their daughters, 26 That he who escapes in that day shall come to you, to cause you to hear it with your ears? 27 In that day your mouth shall be opened to him who has escaped, and you shall speak, and not be mute; and you shall be a sign to them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

  • Jer 46:1-9 : 1 The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the nations; 2 Against Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah. 3 Prepare the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. 4 Harness the horses; and get up, you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; polish the spears, and put on the armor. 5 Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back? Their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled quickly, and do not look back: for fear is all around, says the LORD. 6 Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates. 7 Who is this that comes up like a flood, whose waters move like the rivers? 8 Egypt rises up like a flood, and his waters move like the rivers; and he says, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants. 9 Come up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men come forth: the Ethiopians and the Libyans, who handle the shield; and the Lydians, who handle and bend the bow. 10 For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge himself on his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. 11 Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shall you use many medicines; you shall not be cured. 12 The nations have heard of your shame, and your cry has filled the land: for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, and they have both fallen together. 13 The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would come and strike the land of Egypt. 14 Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Migdol, and proclaim in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say, Stand fast, and prepare yourself; for the sword shall devour around you. 15 Why are your valiant men swept away? They stood not, because the LORD drove them. 16 He made many to fall, yes, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword. 17 They cried there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he has passed the appointed time. 18 As I live, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19 O daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant. 20 Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction comes; it comes out of the north. 21 Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also have turned back, and have fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity has come upon them, and the time of their visitation. 22 The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. 23 They shall cut down her forest, says the LORD, though it cannot be comprehended; because they are more numerous than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable. 24 The daughter of Egypt shall be ashamed; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. 25 The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, says; Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all who trust in him: 26 And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, says the LORD. 27 But do not fear, O my servant Jacob, and do not be dismayed, O Israel: for behold, I will save you from afar, and your descendants from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and ease, and no one shall make him afraid. 28 Fear not, O Jacob my servant, says the LORD: for I am with you; for I will make a complete end of all the nations where I have driven you: but I will not make a complete end of you, but correct you in measure; yet I will not leave you wholly unpunished.

  • Isa 13:1-9 : 1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. 2 Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. 3 I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for my anger, even those who rejoice in my exaltation. 4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like that of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts musters the host of battle. 5 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land. 6 Howl; for the day of the LORD is near; it will come as a destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every man's heart will melt: 8 And they will be afraid: pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; they will be in pain as a woman in labor: they will be amazed at one another; their faces will be like flames. 9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he will destroy the sinners out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light: the sun will be darkened in its rising, and the moon will not cause its light to shine. 11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. 13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth will move out of its place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. 14 And it will be as the hunted roe, and as a sheep that no man takes up: every man will turn to his own people, and everyone will flee to his own land. 15 Everyone who is found will be thrust through; and everyone who is joined to them will fall by the sword. 16 Their children also will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered, and their wives ravished. 17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who will not regard silver; and as for gold, they will not delight in it. 18 Their bows will dash the young men to pieces; and they will have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye will not spare children. 19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' excellency, will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. 20 It will never be inhabited, nor will it be dwelt in from generation to generation: nor will the Arabian pitch tent there; nor will the shepherds make their fold there. 21 But wild beasts of the desert will lie there; and their houses will be full of doleful creatures; and owls will dwell there, and satyrs will dance there. 22 And the wild beasts of the islands will cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: her time is near to come, and her days will not be prolonged.
