17Then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray you, pass through your land: but the king of Edom would not listen. And in like manner they sent to the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel stayed in Kadesh.
18Then they went through the wilderness, and bypassed the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and camped on the other side of Arnon, but did not enter the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.

30We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even to Dibon, and we have laid them waste even to Nophah, which reaches to Medeba.
31Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.
24Rise up, take your journey, and cross over the river Arnon; behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it and engage him in battle.

10And now, see, the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them;
4And it came to pass, in the process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people who were men of war, who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they did not obey the voice of the LORD, to whom the LORD swore that He would not show them the land which the LORD had sworn to their fathers that He would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
3Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, and Beon,
13From there they moved, and camped on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the borders of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
8And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: for eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side of Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
