15 And it happened, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and God had brought their plan to nothing, that we all returned to the wall, each to his work.
16 And it came to pass from that time on, that half of my servants did the work, and the other half held the spears, the shields, the bows, and the armor; and the leaders stood behind all the house of Judah.
1 Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's command and his decree came to be executed, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned around, so the Jews had power over those who hated them;)
2 The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, to lay hands on those who sought their harm: and no one could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.

13 Be it known now to the king, that, if this city is built, and the walls set up again, then they will not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so you will harm the revenue of the kings.
16 And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they realized that this work was done by our God.
9 For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands will be weakened from the work, so that it will not be done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.
10 Afterward I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was confined; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to kill you; indeed, at night they will come to kill you.
1 But it happened that when Sanballat heard we were building the wall, he was angry, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
2 And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish in a day? Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish that are burned?
3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, Even what they build, if a fox goes up, he will break down their stone wall.
4 Hear, O our God; for we are despised: turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them as prey in a land of captivity:
19 Then I said to the nobles, the rulers, and the rest of the people, The work is great and extensive, and we are separated on the wall, far from one another.
20 Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.
5 And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach the city, and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.
6 (For they will come out after us) until we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first; therefore we will flee before them.
1 Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had built the wall, and there was no gap in it; (though at that time I had not set up the doors on the gates;)
2 That Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, Come, let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they planned to harm me.
17 Then I said to them, You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.

18 Then they cried out with a loud voice in the language of Judah to the people of Jerusalem on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them, that they might capture the city.
22 At the same time I also said to the people, Let every man and his servant stay at night in Jerusalem, that they may be a guard to us by night, and a labor force by day.
21 Then I warned them, and said to them, Why do you spend the night around the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time on they came no more on the Sabbath.

23 Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
16 But the other Jews who were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy-five thousand of their foes, but they did not lay their hands on the plunder,
40 They shall also bring up an assembly against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords.

8 And I said to them, According to our ability, we have redeemed our fellow Jews who were sold to the nations; and will you even sell your brethren, or should they be sold to us? Then they were silent and found nothing to answer.
