22 For I was ashamed to request from the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us against the enemy on the way, because we had spoken to the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek him; but his power and his wrath are against all who forsake him.
23 So we fasted and prayed to our God for this, and he answered us.
9 For we were bondservants, yet our God has not forsaken us in our bondage, but has extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, to repair its desolations, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.
17 Then I said to them, You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.
18 Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me, and also the king's words that he had spoken to me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
12 O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great company that comes against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.
16 And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they realized that this work was done by our God.
3 And I said to them, Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they are standing by, let them shut and bar the doors: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one opposite his house.
4 Hear, O our God; for we are despised: turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them as prey in a land of captivity:
1 But it happened that when Sanballat heard we were building the wall, he was angry, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.

14 Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not proper for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore we have sent and certified the king;
16 Indeed, I also devoted myself to the work on this wall and did not buy any land. All my servants were gathered there for the work.
6 I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem, who shall never be silent day or night: you who remind the LORD, do not keep silent,
21 Then I warned them, and said to them, Why do you spend the night around the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time on they came no more on the Sabbath.
7 Therefore he said to Judah, 'Let us build these cities, and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet at peace; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.' So they built and prospered.
