8and a stumbling-stone and a rock to trip over. They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
10You once were not a people, but now you are God’s people. You were shown no mercy, but now you have received mercy.
11Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul,
11This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become the cornerstone.

18Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.”
18You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed– not by perishable things like silver or gold,
19but by precious blood like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb, namely Christ.
20He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was manifested in these last times for your sake.
21Through him you now trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

21In him the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,
22in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

16Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD, says:“Look, I am laying a stone in Zion, an approved stone, set in place as a precious cornerstone for the foundation. The one who maintains his faith will not panic.
32Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but(as if it were possible) by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
33just as it is written,“Look, I am laying in Zion a stone that will cause people to stumble and a rock that will make them fall, yet the one who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

10According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master-builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds.
11For no one can lay any foundation other than what is being laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw,
6This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials.
7Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold– gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away– and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
8You have not seen him, but you love him. You do not see him now but you believe in him, and so you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,

8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, replied,“Rulers of the people and elders,
14Like obedient children, do not comply with the evil urges you used to follow in your ignorance,
44The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.”
17If someone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, which is what you are.

11For thus an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be richly provided for you.
17Exhortation to the Faithful But you, dear friends– recall the predictions foretold by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
