1 The Lord Establishes a Covenant with David The king settled into his palace, for the LORD gave him relief from all his enemies on all sides.

3 Nathan replied to the king,“You should go and do whatever you have in mind, for the LORD is with you.”

5 “Go, tell my servant David:‘This is what the LORD has said: Do you really intend to build a house for me to live in?
1 God Makes a Promise to David When David had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet,“Look, I am living in a palace made from cedar, while the ark of the LORD’s covenant is under a tent.”
2 Nathan said to David,“You should do whatever you have in mind, for God is with you.”
3 That night God told Nathan,
4 “Go, tell my servant David:‘This is what the LORD says:“You must not build me a house in which to live.
7 Nathan said to David,“You are that man! This is what the LORD God of Israel has said:‘I chose you to be king over Israel and I rescued you from the hand of Saul.
8 I gave you your master’s house, and put your master’s wives into your arms. I also gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all that somehow seems insignificant, I would have given you so much more as well!
18 David Offers a Prayer to God King David went in, sat before the LORD, and said,“Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you should have brought me to this point?
19 And you didn’t stop there, O LORD God! You have also spoken about the future of your servant’s family. Is this your usual way of dealing with men, O Sovereign LORD?
20 What more can David say to you? You have given your servant special recognition, O Sovereign LORD!
21 For the sake of your promise and according to your purpose you have done this great thing in order to reveal it to your servant.

21 If a decision is not made, when my master the king is buried with his ancestors, my son Solomon and I will be considered state criminals.”
22 Just then, while she was still speaking to the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.

24 Nathan said,“My master, O king, did you announce,‘Adonijah will be king after me; he will sit on my throne’?
25 So now, O LORD God, make this promise you have made about your servant and his family a permanent reality. Do as you promised,
13 Then David exclaimed to Nathan,“I have sinned against the LORD!” Nathan replied to David,“Yes, and the LORD has forgiven your sin. You are not going to die.
1 Nathan the Prophet Confronts David So the LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to David, Nathan said,“There were two men in a certain city, one rich and the other poor.
32 King David said,“Summon Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.” They came before the king,
23 So now, O LORD, may the promise you made about your servant and his family become a permanent reality! Do as you promised,
17 You must serve me as your father David did. Do everything I commanded and obey my rules and regulations.
18 Then I will establish your dynasty, just as I promised your father David,‘You will not fail to have a successor ruling over Israel.’

5 Then David became very angry at this man. He said to Nathan,“As surely as the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die!
27 for you, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, have told your servant,‘I will build you a dynastic house.’ That is why your servant has had the courage to pray this prayer to you.
9 The LORD told Gad, David’s prophet,
11 Nathan said to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother,“Has it been reported to you that Haggith’s son Adonijah has become king behind our master David’s back?
12 Now let me give you some advice as to how you can save your life and your son Solomon’s life.
37 As the LORD is with my master the king, so may he be with Solomon, and may he make him an even greater king than my master King David!”
15 He said,“The LORD God of Israel is worthy of praise because he has fulfilled what he promised my father David.
7 Wherever I moved among all the Israelites, I did not say to any of their leaders whom I appointed to care for my people Israel,“Why have you not built me a house made from cedar?”’
8 “So now, say this to my servant David:‘This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has said: I took you from the pasture and from your work as a shepherd to make you leader of my people Israel.
27 Has my master the king authorized this without informing your servants who should succeed my master the king on his throne?”
7 David said to Solomon:“My son, I really wanted to build a temple to honor the LORD my God.
18 The LORD told my father David,‘It is right for you to have a strong desire to build a temple to honor me.
12 David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and that he had elevated his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.
15 You have kept your word to your servant, my father David; this very day you have fulfilled what you promised.
