    18Now the coastlands will tremble on the day of your fall; the coastlands by the sea will be terrified by your passing.’

  • 14For this reason no watered trees will grow so tall; their tops will not reach into the clouds, nor will the well-watered ones grow that high. For all of them have been appointed to die in the lower parts of the earth; they will be among mere mortals, with those who descend to the Pit.

  • 7Everyone who sees you will turn away from you in disgust; they will say,‘Nineveh has been devastated! Who will lament for her?’ There will be no one to comfort you!”

  • 23I will put it into the hand of your tormentors who said to you,‘Lie down, so we can walk over you.’ You made your back like the ground, and like the street for those who walked over you.”

  • 17Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Have you seen the gates of deepest darkness?

  • 10Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears! Let the weak say,‘I too am a warrior!’

  • 21What will you say when the LORD appoints as rulers over you those allies that you, yourself, had actually prepared as such? Then anguish and agony will grip you like that of a woman giving birth to a baby.

  • 30They will lament loudly over you and cry bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads and roll in the ashes;

  • 12Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.

  • 10But man dies and is powerless; he expires– and where is he?
