it is unclean to you. 5 And the coney, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you. 6 And the hare, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you. 7 And the swine, though it divides the hoof, and is cloven-footed, yet it does not chew the cud; it is unclean to you. 8 Of their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcass you shall not touch; they are unclean to you. 9 These you shall eat of all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them you shall eat. 10 And all that do not have fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination to you: 11 They shall be even an abomination to you; you shall not eat of their flesh, but you shall have their carcasses in abomination. 12 Whatever has no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination to you. 13 And these are they which you shall have in abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the vulture, and the osprey, 14 And the kite, and the falcon after its kind; 15 Every raven after its kind; 16 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after its kind, 17 And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl, 18 And the swan, and the pelican, and the vulture, 19 And the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat. 20 All winged insects that creep, going upon all fours, shall be an abomination to you. 21 Yet these may you eat of every flying creeping thing that goes upon all fours, which have legs above their feet, to leap with upon the earth; 22 Of these you may eat; the locust after its kind, and the bald locust after its kind, and the cricket after its kind, and the grasshopper after its kind. 23 But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination to you. 24 And for these you shall be unclean: whoever touches the carcass of them shall be unclean until the evening. 25 And whoever carries any part of the carcass of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening. 26 The carcasses of every beast which divides the hoof, and is not cloven-footed, nor chews the cud, are unclean to you: everyone that touches them shall be unclean. 27 And whatever goes upon its paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all fours, those are unclean to you: whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening. 28 And he that carries the carcass of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening: they are unclean to you. 29 These also shall be unclean to you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after its kind, 30 And the gecko, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole. 31 These are unclean to you among all that creep: whoever touches them, when they are dead, shall be unclean until the evening. 32 And upon whatever any of them, when they are dead, does fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or clothing, or skin, or bag, whatever vessel it is, in which any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the evening; so it shall be cleansed. 33 And every earthen vessel, into which any of them falls, whatever is in it shall be unclean; and you shall break it. 34 Of all food which may be eaten, that on which such water comes shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean. 35 And everything on which any part of their carcass falls shall be unclean; whether it be oven, or stove, they shall be broken down: for they are unclean and shall be unclean to you. 36 Nevertheless a fountain or pit, in which there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but whatever touches their carcass shall be unclean. 37 And if any part of their carcass falls upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean. 38 But if any water is put upon the seed, and any part of their carcass falls on it, it shall be unclean to you. 39 And if any beast, of which you may eat, dies; he that touches its carcass shall be unclean until the evening. 40 And he that eats of the carcass of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening: he also that carries its carcass shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the evening. 41 And every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten. 42 Whatever goes upon the belly, and whatever goes upon all fours, or whatever has many feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them you shall not eat; for they are an abomination. 43 You shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creeps, nor shall you make yourselves unclean with them, that you should be defiled by them. 44 For I am the LORD your God: therefore you shall sanctify yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy: nor shall you defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. 45 For I am the LORD who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: therefore you shall be holy, for I am holy. 46 This is the law of the animals, and of the birds, and of every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps upon the earth: 47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the animal that may be eaten and the animal that may not be eaten.

  • Lev 23:1-9 : 1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy gatherings, these are my feasts. 3 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, a holy gathering; you shall do no work in it; it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings. 4 These are the feasts of the LORD, holy gatherings, which you shall proclaim in their seasons. 5 On the fourteenth day of the first month at evening is the LORD'S Passover. 6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread to the LORD; seven days you must eat unleavened bread. 7 On the first day you shall have a holy gathering: you shall do no servile work in it. 8 But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD seven days; on the seventh day is a holy gathering; you shall do no servile work in it. 9 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 10 Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, When you come into the land which I give you and shall reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. 11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you; on the day after the sabbath the priest shall wave it. 12 And you shall offer that day when you wave the sheaf a he-lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering to the LORD. 13 And its meat offering shall be two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, an offering made by fire to the LORD for a sweet aroma; and its drink offering shall be of wine, the fourth part of a hin. 14 And you shall eat neither bread, nor parched grain, nor fresh ears until the same day that you have brought an offering to your God; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 15 And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete. 16 Even to the day after the seventh sabbath shall you number fifty days; and you shall offer a new meat offering to the LORD. 17 You shall bring out of your dwellings two wave loaves of two-tenths of an ephah; they shall be made of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven; they are the firstfruits to the LORD. 18 And you shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, one young bull, and two rams; they shall be a burnt offering to the LORD, with their meat offering and their drink offerings, an offering made by fire, of sweet aroma to the LORD. 19 Then you shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings. 20 And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the LORD, with the two lambs; they shall be holy to the LORD for the priest. 21 And you shall proclaim on the same day that it may be a holy gathering to you; you shall do no servile work in it; it shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations. 22 And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field when you reap, nor shall you gather any of the gleaning of your harvest; you shall leave them for the poor and for the stranger; I am the LORD your God. 23 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy gathering. 25 You shall do no servile work in it; but you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. 26 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the day of atonement; it shall be a holy gathering to you; and you shall afflict your souls and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. 28 And you shall do no work in that same day, for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement for you before the LORD your God. 29 For any person who does not afflict himself on that same day shall be cut off from among his people. 30 And any person who does any work on that same day, that person I will destroy from among his people. 31 You shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 32 It shall be to you a sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath. 33 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 34 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days to the LORD. 35 On the first day there shall be a holy gathering; you shall do no servile work in it. 36 Seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD; on the eighth day there shall be a holy gathering to you, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD; it is a solemn assembly, and you shall do no servile work in it. 37 These are the feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy gatherings, to offer an offering made by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, everything on its day. 38 Besides the sabbaths of the LORD and besides your gifts and besides all your vows and besides all your freewill offerings which you give to the LORD. 39 Also on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep a feast to the LORD seven days; on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath. 40 And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. 41 And you shall keep it a feast to the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 You shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are native Israelites shall dwell in booths. 43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God. 44 And Moses declared to the children of Israel the feasts of the LORD.

  • Deut 14:3-9 : 3 You shall not eat any abominable thing. 4 These are the animals which you shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, 5 The deer, and the roe deer, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the antelope, and the wild ox, and the mountain sheep. 6 And every animal that parts the hoof, and has a split hoof, and chews the cud among the animals, that you shall eat. 7 Nevertheless, these you shall not eat of those that chew the cud or of those that have the divided hoof: the camel, and the hare, and the rock hyrax; for they chew the cud, but do not divide the hoof; therefore, they are unclean to you. 8 And the swine, because it divides the hoof, yet does not chew the cud, it is unclean to you: you shall not eat their flesh, nor touch their dead bodies. 9 These you shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales you shall eat. 10 And whatever does not have fins and scales you may not eat; it is unclean to you. 11 Of all clean birds you shall eat. 12 But these are they of which you shall not eat: the eagle, and the bearded vulture, and the osprey, 13 And the kite, and the falcon, and the vulture after its kind, 14 And every raven after its kind, 15 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after its kind, 16 The little owl, and the great owl, and the white owl, 17 And the pelican, and the carrion vulture, and the cormorant, 18 And the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat. 19 And every creeping thing that flies is unclean to you: they shall not be eaten. 20 But of all clean birds you may eat. 21 You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself: you shall give it to the stranger that is within your gates, that he may eat it; or you may sell it to an alien: for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.
  • Deut 16:1-9 : 1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to the LORD your God: for in the month of Abib the LORD your God brought you out of Egypt by night. 2 Therefore you shall sacrifice the Passover to the LORD your God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the LORD shall choose to place His name there. 3 You shall eat no leavened bread with it; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it, the bread of affliction; for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste: that you may remember the day when you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life. 4 And there shall be no leavened bread seen with you in all your territory for seven days; nor shall any of the flesh, which you sacrificed the first day at evening, remain all night until the morning. 5 You may not sacrifice the Passover within any of your gates, which the LORD your God gives you: 6 But at the place which the LORD your God shall choose to place His name in, there you shall sacrifice the Passover at evening, at the going down of the sun, at the season that you came out of Egypt. 7 And you shall roast and eat it in the place which the LORD your God shall choose: and you shall return in the morning, and go to your tents. 8 Six days you shall eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the LORD your God: you shall do no work in it. 9 Seven weeks you shall number for yourself: begin to number the seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the grain. 10 And you shall keep the feast of weeks to the LORD your God with a tribute of a freewill offering from your hand, which you shall give to the LORD your God, according to how the LORD your God has blessed you: 11 And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite that is within your gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD your God has chosen to place His name there. 12 And you shall remember that you were a bondservant in Egypt: and you shall observe and do these statutes. 13 You shall observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after you have gathered in your grain and your wine: 14 And you shall rejoice in your feast, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within your gates. 15 Seven days you shall keep a solemn feast to the LORD your God in the place which the LORD shall choose: because the LORD your God shall bless you in all your increase, and in all the works of your hands, therefore you shall surely rejoice. 16 Three times in a year shall all your males appear before the LORD your God in the place which He shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty: 17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.

  • Heb 13:9 : 9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
  • Jas 4:11 : 11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
  • 1 Cor 8:7-9 : 7 However, not everyone has this knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol, and their weak conscience is defiled. 8 But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we better, nor if we do not eat are we worse. 9 But take care lest this liberty of yours somehow becomes a stumbling block to those who are weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat things offered to idols? 11 And through your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when you sin against the brethren and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will eat no meat as long as the world stands, lest I make my brother stumble.
  • Acts 11:3-9 : 3 Saying, You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them. 4 But Peter explained the matter from the beginning and described it in order to them, saying, 5 I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me. 6 Upon which when I had fixed my eyes, I considered and saw four-footed animals of the earth, and wild beasts, and crawling creatures, and birds of the air. 7 And I heard a voice saying to me, Arise, Peter; kill and eat. 8 But I said, Not so, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth. 9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God has cleansed, do not call common. 10 And this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11 And immediately there were three men already come to the house where I was, sent from Caesarea to me. 12 And the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover, these six brothers accompanied me, and we entered the man's house: 13 And he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said to him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14 Who shall tell you words, whereby you and all your house shall be saved. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit. 17 Since then God gave them the same gift as he did to us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I that I could withstand God? 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life.
