Noen fra Manasse sluttet seg til David da han gikk med filisterne til kamp mot Saul. Men de hjalp ikke filisterne, for filisternes fyrster sendte ham bort etter å ha holdt råd og sa: "Han kan vende seg mot oss under kampen og forråde oss til sin herre Saul."
