Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart. 4 They carried the ark of God out of Abinadab’s house, which was on the hill, and Ahio walked in front of the ark. 5 David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the LORD with all kinds of instruments made of fir wood—lyres, harps, tambourines, rattles, and cymbals. 6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out his hand to the ark of God to steady it, for the oxen had stumbled. 7 The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for his irreverence. He died there beside the ark of God. 8 David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzzah, and that place was called Perez Uzzah, as it is to this day. 9 David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, 'How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?' 10 So David was not willing to bring the ark of the LORD to the City of David.
