Should I really let myself be consulted by them? 4 Therefore, speak to them and say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Any man from the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and then comes to the prophet—I, the LORD, will answer him myself in keeping with the multitude of his idols.' 5 So that I may seize the house of Israel by their hearts, because they have all turned away from me through their idols. 6 Therefore, say to the house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Repent and turn away from your idols and turn your faces away from all your detestable practices.' 7 For if any man from the house of Israel or any foreigner living in Israel separates himself from me, sets up idols in his heart, places the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of me, I, the LORD, will answer him myself. 8 I will set my face against that man and make him a sign and a proverb; I will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am the LORD. 9 And if the prophet is deceived into giving a message, it is I, the LORD, who have deceived that prophet. I will stretch out my hand against him and destroy him from among my people Israel. 10 They will bear their guilt. You will plant your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it. 17 I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is chasing you. 18 If after all this you still do not listen to me, I will punish you seven times over for your sins. 19 I will break your stubborn pride and make your sky like iron and your land like bronze. 20 Your strength will be spent in vain, because your land will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit. 21 If you continue to walk contrary to me and are unwilling to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over as your sins deserve. 22 I will send wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle, and reduce your numbers until your roads are deserted. 23 If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction and continue to walk contrary to me, 24 then I too will act with hostility against you, and I will strike you sevenfold for your sins. 25 I will bring the sword upon you to avenge the breaking of the covenant, and when you retreat into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be delivered into the hands of the enemy. 26 When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven and dole out your bread by weight, and you will eat but not be satisfied. 27 But if, after all this, you do not listen to me and continue to act with hostility against me, 28 then I in turn will act with furious hostility against you, and I will discipline you seven times over for your sins. 29 You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. 30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and my soul will reject you. 31 I will lay your cities in ruins, make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will no longer smell the pleasing aroma of your offerings. 32 I will bring the land to desolation so that even your enemies who live there will be appalled by it. 33 I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out a sword after you. Your land will be desolate and your cities will lie in ruins. 34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in the land of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 As long as it lies desolate, it will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths while you lived there. 36 As for those of you who survive, I will bring weakness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as though running from a sword, though no one pursues them. 37 They will stumble over one another as if fleeing from the sword, though no one pursues them. You will not be able to stand before your enemies. 38 You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will consume you. 39 Those of you who remain will waste away in their iniquity in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors, they will waste away with them. 40 But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their ancestors—their unfaithfulness with which they were unfaithful to me, and also how they walked contrary to me— 41 so that I also walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their punishment for their iniquity, 42 then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. 43 For the land will be abandoned by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; they will accept their punishment for their iniquity, because they rejected my judgments and their soul abhorred my statutes. 44 Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God. 45 For their sake, I will remember the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God: I am the LORD. 46 These are the statutes, judgments, and laws the LORD established between himself and the sons of Israel through Moses on Mount Sinai.

His anger and jealousy will burn against them, and every curse written in this scroll will fall on them. The LORD will blot out their name from under the heavens. 20 The LORD will single them out for disaster from all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law. 21 Future generations—your children who come after you and the foreigner who comes from a distant country—will see the calamities that have fallen on the land and the diseases with which the LORD has afflicted it. 22 The whole land will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His fierce anger. 23 All the nations will ask, 'Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?' 24 And they will answer, 'It is because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. 25 They turned to other gods and worshiped and bowed down to them, gods they did not know and gods the LORD had not given to them.' 26 Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, bringing upon it every curse written in this book. 27 In His anger and great wrath, the LORD uprooted them from their land and cast them into another land, as it is today. 28 The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.

Many disasters and calamities will come upon them, and on that day they will say, 'Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?' 18 'And I will surely hide my face on that day because of all the evil they have done by turning to other gods.' 19 'Now write down this song and teach it to the Israelites. Have them sing it, so that it may be a witness for me against the Israelites.' 20 When I bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I swore to their ancestors, and they eat their fill and grow fat, they will turn to other gods and worship them, rejecting me and breaking my covenant. 21 And when many disasters and troubles have come upon them, this song will testify against them, for it will not be forgotten from the mouths of their descendants. For I know what they are inclined to do, even before I bring them into the land I swore to give them. 22 So Moses wrote down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites.
  • Deut 32:15-25 : 15 But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you grew fat, thick, and bloated. Then he forsook the God who made him and treated with contempt the Rock of his salvation. 16 They made Him jealous with strange gods and provoked Him to anger with detestable practices. 17 They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they had not known, to new gods that had recently appeared, gods your ancestors did not fear. 18 You ignored the Rock who begot you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. 19 The LORD saw this and despised them out of His anger at His sons and daughters. 20 He said: I will hide My face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom there is no faithfulness. 21 They made Me jealous with something that is not God; they provoked Me with their worthless idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a nation; I will provoke them with a foolish nation. 22 For a fire has been kindled in My wrath, and it burns to the depths of Sheol. It consumes the earth and its produce and sets ablaze the foundations of the mountains. 23 I will heap calamities on them and expend My arrows against them. 24 Wasted by famine, consumed by burning heat and bitter destruction, I will send against them the teeth of wild animals and the venom of creatures that crawl in the dust. 25 Outside, the sword will bring bereavement, and inside, there will be terror. It will affect both the young man and the young woman, the nursing child with the gray-haired man.
