- Jer 46:2-9 : 2 Concerning Egypt: about the army of Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, which was at the Euphrates River in Carchemish and was defeated by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah. 3 Prepare your shields, both small and large, and march out for battle! 4 Harness the horses, and mount the riders! Take your positions with helmets on! Polish the spears, and put on your armor! 5 Why do I see them terrified, retreating? Their warriors are beaten down; they flee in haste without looking back—terror is all around! declares the Lord. 6 The swift cannot flee, nor can the strong escape. In the north, by the river Euphrates, they stumble and fall. 7 Who is this that rises like the Nile, like rivers that surge and toss about? 8 Egypt rises like the Nile, and its waters surge like rivers. It says, 'I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy cities and their inhabitants.' 9 Charge, you horses! Drive furiously, you charioteers! Let the warriors march out—Cush and Put, wielding shields, and the Ludim, skilled in using the bow. 10 For that day belongs to the Lord, the Lord of Hosts— a day of vengeance to avenge his foes. The sword will devour until it is satisfied, till it is drunk with their blood. For the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River. 11 Go up to Gilead and get balm, Virgin Daughter Egypt. But you multiply remedies in vain; there is no healing for you. 12 The nations have heard of your shame; the earth is filled with your cry. One warrior stumbles over another; both fall together.
