Could I not wash in them and be cleansed?' So he turned and went away in a rage. 13 But his servants approached him and said, 'My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he says to you, “Wash and be cleansed”? ' 14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. So he and his servant Purah went down to the edge of the armed men who were in the camp. 12 Midian, Amalek, and all the people of the east were lying in the valley as thick as locusts. Their camels were too numerous to count, like the sand on the seashore. 13 When Gideon arrived, he overheard a man telling his companion about a dream. He said, "Listen, I had a dream: a round loaf of barley bread tumbled into the Midianite camp, struck a tent with such force that it collapsed and fell completely flat." 14 His companion responded, "This can only mean the sword of Gideon son of Joash, a man of Israel. God has delivered Midian and the entire camp into his hands." 15 When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down in worship. He returned to the Israelite camp and said, "Get up! The LORD has given the Midianite camp into your hands." 16 Gideon divided the three hundred men into three groups. He placed trumpets and empty jars, with torches inside the jars, into the hands of all of them. 17 He said to them, "Watch me and do as I do. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do. 18 When I and all who are with me blow our trumpets, then you also blow your trumpets all around the camp and shout, 'For the LORD and for Gideon!'" 19 Gideon and the hundred men with him reached the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just after the guards had been changed. They blew their trumpets and smashed the jars in their hands. 20 The three groups blew their trumpets and broke the jars. Holding the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands, they shouted, "A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!"
