- Amos 5:10-12 : 10 They hate the one who reproves in the gate and despise the one who speaks with honesty. 11 Therefore, because you trample on the poor and exact a grain tax from them, though you have built houses of cut stone, you will not live in them; though you have planted delightful vineyards, you will not drink their wine. 12 For I know your many transgressions and your mighty sins: oppressing the righteous, taking bribes, and turning aside the needy at the gate.
- Amos 7:10-17 : 10 Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent a message to Jeroboam, king of Israel, saying, 'Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.' 11 For Amos says, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will surely go into exile, away from their own land.' 12 Then Amaziah said to Amos, 'Seer, go and flee to the land of Judah; there you can earn your bread and prophesy there.' 13 'But never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king's sanctuary and the temple of the kingdom.' 14 Amos answered Amaziah, 'I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a herdsman and a tender of sycamore figs.' 15 But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, 'Go, prophesy to My people Israel.' 16 Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord: You say, 'Do not prophesy against Israel and do not preach against the house of Isaac.' 17 Therefore, this is what the Lord says: 'Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be divided up with a measuring line, and you yourself will die in a polluted land. Israel will surely go into exile away from their homeland.'
- Mic 2:6-7 : 6 'Do not preach,' they preach. 'Do not preach about such things; disgrace will not overtake us.' 7 House of Jacob, is the Spirit of the LORD impatient? Are these His deeds? Do not my words do good to those who do right?
