- Jer 7:22-26 : 22 For when I brought your ancestors out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to them or command them concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. 23 But this is what I commanded them: Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Walk in all the ways I command you, so that it may go well with you. 24 But they did not listen or incline their ear; instead, they walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil hearts. They went backward, not forward. 25 From the day your ancestors came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I sent all my servants the prophets to you, again and again. 26 But they did not listen to me or incline their ear; instead, they stiffened their necks and did worse than their ancestors.

From the day you left the land of Egypt until you arrived at this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD. 8 Even at Horeb, you provoked the LORD to anger, and the LORD was angry enough with you to destroy you. 9 When I went up the mountain to receive the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant that the LORD had made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I did not eat bread or drink water. 10 Then the LORD gave me the two stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God. On them were all the words the LORD had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. 11 At the end of the forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant. 12 Then the LORD said to me, 'Go down immediately, for your people, whom you brought out of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned aside from the way I commanded them; they have made a molten image for themselves.'

You lavished your acts of prostitution on every passerby, willing to be his. 16 You took your garments and made colorful high places for yourself, and on them, you committed prostitution. Such things should not have happened, nor should they occur. 17 You also took the fine jewelry made of gold and silver that I had given you, and you made male idols for yourself and engaged in prostitution with them. 18 You took your embroidered garments to cover them, and you presented my oil and incense before them. 19 Also, the food I provided for you–the fine flour, oil, and honey that I fed you–you set before them as a pleasing aroma. And so it was, declares the Lord GOD. 20 You even took the sons and daughters you bore to me and sacrificed them to the idols as food. Was your prostitution not enough? 21 You slaughtered my children and offered them up by making them pass through fire to these idols. 22 In all your detestable practices and prostitution, you did not remember the days of your youth when you were naked and bare, kicking about in your blood.
- Ezek 20:8 : 8 But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me; none of them got rid of the detestable things their eyes were set on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and unleash my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

- Acts 7:51-53 : 51 You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, just as your ancestors did. 52 Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? - Deut 9:22-24 : 22 You continued to provoke the LORD to anger at Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah. 23 And when the LORD sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, 'Go up and take possession of the land I have given you,' you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. - 2 Kgs 17:9-9 : 9 The Israelites secretly did things against the Lord their God that were not right. They built high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city. 10 They set up for themselves sacred pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every leafy tree. 11 There, on all the high places, they burned incense as the nations whom the Lord had driven out before them had done. They did wicked things that provoked the Lord to anger. 12 They served idols, about which the Lord had said to them, 'You shall not do this thing.' 13 Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets and seers, saying, 'Turn back from your evil ways and keep My commandments and statutes according to the entire law I commanded your fathers to follow, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets.' 14 But they would not listen. Instead, they hardened their necks like their fathers who did not believe in the Lord their God. 15 They despised His statutes, His covenant that He made with their fathers, and His warnings He gave them. They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves. They imitated the nations around them, though the Lord had commanded them not to do so. 16 They abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God. They made for themselves two cast idols in the form of calves, made an Asherah pole, worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. 17 They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire, practiced divination and sorcery, and sold themselves to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him to anger. 18 So the Lord became very angry with Israel and removed them from His presence. Only the tribe of Judah was left. 19 But even Judah did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God. They followed the practices of Israel as the Israelites had done. 20 Therefore the Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel, afflicted them, and handed them over to plunderers until He had cast them out of His presence.
- Neh 9:16-37 : 16 But they, our ancestors, acted arrogantly. They stiffened their necks and did not obey Your commandments. 17 They refused to listen and did not remember the wonders You performed among them. They stiffened their necks and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But You are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abundant in faithful love, and You did not abandon them. 18 Even when they made a molten calf for themselves and said, 'This is your god who brought you out of Egypt,' and they committed terrible blasphemies, 19 You, in Your great mercy, did not abandon them in the wilderness. During the day, the pillar of cloud did not depart to guide them on their way, nor did the pillar of fire by night to give them light for the path they should take. 20 You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold manna from their mouths, and You provided water for their thirst. 21 For forty years You sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell. 22 You gave them kingdoms and nations, dividing them into regions. They took possession of the land of Sihon, the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og, king of Bashan. 23 You multiplied their descendants like the stars of heaven and brought them to the land You had promised their ancestors they would enter and take possession of. 24 Their descendants went in and took possession of the land. You subdued the inhabitants of the land—the Canaanites—before them and handed their kings and the peoples of the land over to them, to do with as they desired. 25 They captured fortified cities and fertile land. They took possession of houses filled with every good thing, hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. They ate, were satisfied, grew fat, and delighted themselves in Your great goodness. 26 But they were disobedient and rebelled against You. They cast Your law behind their backs and killed Your prophets who warned them to turn back to You. They committed terrible blasphemies. 27 So You handed them over to their enemies, who oppressed them. But in their time of distress, they cried out to You, and You heard from heaven. In Your great mercy, You gave them deliverers, who rescued them from the hand of their enemies. 28 But as soon as they had rest, they returned to doing evil in Your sight. So You abandoned them to their enemies, who ruled over them. Yet when they again cried out to You, You heard from heaven and rescued them many times in Your abundant mercy. 29 You warned them to return to Your law, but they acted arrogantly and did not obey Your commandments. They sinned against Your judgments, which, if a person does, they will live by them. Stubbornly, they turned their backs, stiffened their necks, and would not listen. 30 For many years, You were patient with them. You warned them by Your Spirit through Your prophets, yet they would not listen. So You gave them into the hands of the peoples of the lands. 31 Still, in Your great mercies, You did not utterly destroy them or abandon them, for You are a gracious and merciful God. 32 Now therefore, our God, the great, mighty, and awesome God who keeps His covenant and steadfast love, do not let the hardship that has come upon us—on our kings, leaders, priests, prophets, ancestors, and on all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until today—seem insignificant to You. 33 You are righteous in all that has happened to us, because You have acted faithfully while we have acted wickedly. 34 Our kings, leaders, priests, and ancestors did not obey Your law or pay attention to Your commandments and warnings You gave them. 35 Even while they were in their kingdom, enjoying Your abundant goodness and the spacious, fertile land You gave them, they did not serve You or turn from their evil deeds. 36 Here we are today, slaves in the land You gave to our ancestors so they could enjoy its fruit and its goodness—here we are, slaves in it! 37 Its abundant harvest goes to the kings You have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.
- Ps 106:6-7 : 6 We have sinned, just as our ancestors did; we have committed iniquity and acted wickedly. 7 Our ancestors in Egypt did not consider Your miracles; they did not remember the abundance of Your lovingkindness but rebelled at the sea, the Red Sea.

- Gen 8:21 : 21 The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in His heart, "Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. Nor will I ever again destroy all living creatures, as I have done.
