The priests and the Levites purified themselves, and then they purified the people, the gates, and the wall.

This shall be a lasting statute for the Israelites and for the foreigner living among them. 11 Whoever touches the dead body of any person shall be unclean for seven days. 12 He must purify himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day, then he will be clean. But if he does not purify himself on the third day and the seventh day, he will not be clean. 13 Anyone who touches a dead body, the lifeless body of a person who has died, and does not purify himself, defiles the LORD's tabernacle. That person must be cut off from Israel because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him.
