7Even lifeless instruments like the flute or harp, if they do not produce a clear distinction in the notes, how will anyone recognize what is played on the flute or the harp?
12So with yourselves, since you are eager for spiritual gifts, seek to excel in building up the church.
13Therefore, the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say.
14For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
15What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
9In the same way, unless you speak intelligible words through your tongue, how will anyone understand what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air.
10There are so many kinds of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning.
1Now, concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware.
39So then, brothers and sisters, eagerly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.
4God also bore witness with signs and wonders and various miracles, and by distributions of the Holy Spirit according to His will.
10Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
21In the Law it is written: 'By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me,' says the Lord.
22Thus, tongues are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign, not for unbelievers but for believers.
23So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your mind?
24But if everyone is prophesying and an unbeliever or uninitiated person enters, they are convicted of sin by all and are examined by all.
11And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors, and teachers,
12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ,
31For you can all prophesy one by one, so that everyone may learn and be encouraged.
32The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.
17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name, they will cast out demons, and they will speak in new tongues.
