  • 1 Cor 14:37 : 37 If anyone considers themselves to be a prophet or spiritually gifted, let them acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are the Lord’s commands.
  • 1 Cor 12:4-9 : 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of workings, but the same God works all of them in all people. 7 To each one, the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one, a message of wisdom is given through the Spirit; to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by that one Spirit; 10 to another, miraculous powers; to another, prophecy; to another, distinguishing between spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He distributes them to each one just as He wills.
  • 1 Cor 14:1-9 : 1 Pursue love, and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, because no one understands; they speak mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement, and comfort. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up themselves, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 I wish that all of you spoke in tongues, but I would rather you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless they interpret so that the church may be built up. 6 Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what good will I be to you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? 7 Even lifeless instruments like the flute or harp, if they do not produce a clear distinction in the notes, how will anyone recognize what is played on the flute or the harp? 8 For if the trumpet gives an unclear sound, who will prepare for battle? 9 In the same way, unless you speak intelligible words through your tongue, how will anyone understand what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. 10 There are so many kinds of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 11 If I do not understand the meaning of what someone is saying, I will be a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker will be a foreigner to me. 12 So with yourselves, since you are eager for spiritual gifts, seek to excel in building up the church. 13 Therefore, the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. 16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can someone who is in the position of an outsider say 'Amen' to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying? 17 You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not built up. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.
  • 1 Cor 10:1 : 1 Brothers, I do not want you to be unaware that all our ancestors were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea.
  • 2 Cor 1:8 : 8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, of the trouble we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself.
  • Eph 4:11 : 11 And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors, and teachers,
  • 1 Thess 4:13 : 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.
  • 2 Pet 3:8 : 8 But do not let this one thing escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
