1 Samuel 16:1
The LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen a king for myself among his sons."

11 Then Samuel asked Jesse, "Are these all the young men you have?" Jesse replied, "There remains the youngest, but he is tending the sheep." Samuel said to Jesse, "Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives here."
12 So Jesse sent for him and brought him in. He was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. Then the LORD said, "Rise and anoint him; this is the one."
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel left and went to Ramah.

16 "About this time tomorrow, I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. You shall anoint him as ruler over my people Israel. He will deliver my people from the hand of the Philistines, for I have seen my people and their cry has reached me."
17 When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said to him, "Here is the man I told you about; he will govern my people."
18 Saul approached Samuel at the city gate and asked, "Please tell me where the seer's house is."
19 Samuel answered, "I am the seer. Go up ahead of me to the high place, for you will eat with me today. In the morning, I will send you on your way and tell you all that is on your heart.
13 Samuel said to Saul, "You have acted foolishly. You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, which He gave you. If you had, the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.
14 But now your kingdom will not endure. The Lord has sought a man after His own heart and appointed him leader over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you."
5 They said to him, 'You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways. Now appoint a king to judge us, like all the other nations.'
6 But their request for a king displeased Samuel, and he prayed to the LORD.
7 The LORD said to Samuel, 'Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. It is not you they have rejected but they have rejected me as their king.
16 Then Samuel said to Saul, 'Stop! Let me tell you what the LORD said to me last night.' Saul replied, 'Speak.'
17 Samuel said, 'Although you were small in your own eyes, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel.'
10 Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying:
11 I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned away from following me and has not carried out my commands. This grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the LORD all night.
12 Early in the morning, Samuel got up to meet Saul, but he was told, 'Saul went to Carmel and has set up a monument in his own honor. Then he turned and went down to Gilgal.'
13 When Samuel reached him, Saul said, 'Blessed are you of the LORD! I have carried out the LORD's instruction.'
14 But Samuel said, 'What is this sound of sheep and cattle that I hear?'
15 Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" Saul answered, "I am deeply distressed. The Philistines are waging war against me, and God has turned away from me. He no longer answers me, not by prophets or by dreams. Therefore, I have called upon you to tell me what I should do."
16 Samuel said, "Why do you consult me, now that the LORD has turned away from you and has become your enemy?
17 The LORD has done as he spoke through me. He has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David.
1 Then Samuel said to all Israel, 'Here I am; I have listened to you in everything you have said to me, and I have set a king over you.'
22 The LORD said to Samuel, 'Listen to them and appoint a king for them.' Then Samuel said to the people of Israel, 'Each of you, return to your own town.'
22 Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, "Allow David to remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight."
6 Jehu got up and went into the house. The young prophet poured the oil on his head and said, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I anoint you king over the LORD's people, Israel.'
3 Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head, saying, 'This is what the LORD says: I anoint you as king over Israel.' Then open the door and flee; do not delay!
14 He did not seek guidance from the LORD, so the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David, son of Jesse.
35 Samuel never saw Saul again until the day of his death. Nevertheless, Samuel mourned for Saul, and the LORD regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.
28 And Samuel said to him, 'The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel away from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors, someone better than you.'
31 As long as the son of Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Now send someone to bring him to me, for he must die!'
10 Where now is your king to save you in all your cities? And where are your rulers, about whom you said, 'Give me a king and princes'?
