    7The Levites shall surround the king on every side, each man with his weapon in hand. Anyone who tries to enter the house is to be put to death. Stay close to the king wherever he goes.

    8The Levites and all Judah did everything Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each man took his men, those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty, because Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss any of the divisions.

    9Jehoiada the priest gave the commanders of hundreds the spears, large shields, and small shields that had belonged to King David and were kept in the house of God.

    13When Athaliah looked, she saw the king standing by his pillar at the entrance. The commanders and the trumpeters were with the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. The singers with their musical instruments were leading in songs of praise. Then Athaliah tore her garments and shouted, 'Treason! Treason!'

    14Jehoiada the priest brought out the commanders of hundreds who were in charge of the troops and said to them, 'Take her out between the ranks and put to death with the sword anyone who follows her.' For the priest said, 'Do not put her to death in the house of the Lord.'

    15So they seized her, and she came to the entrance of the Horse Gate by the king's palace, and there they put her to death.

    16Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, all the people, and the king that they would be the Lord's people.

    17All the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed the altars and idols and killed Mattan, the priest of Baal, in front of the altars.

    18Jehoiada appointed the oversight of the house of the Lord to the priests, who were Levites, as David had assigned them in the house of the Lord, to offer burnt offerings to the Lord as written in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and singing as David had directed.

    19He stationed gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the Lord so that no one who was unclean in any way could enter.

    20He took the commanders of hundreds, the nobles, the rulers of the people, and all the people of the land and brought the king down from the house of the Lord. They entered through the Upper Gate to the king's palace and seated the king on the royal throne.

    21All the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet, for they had put Athaliah to death by the sword.

    1The king sent messengers, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

    2The king went up to the house of the Lord, along with all the men of Judah, all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the prophets, and all the people, from the youngest to the oldest. There, he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the house of the Lord.

    3The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the Lord to follow the Lord, to keep His commandments, His testimonies, and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to uphold the words of the covenant written in this book. All the people joined in the covenant.

    4The king ordered Hilkiah the high priest, the priests of the second rank, and the gatekeepers to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the objects made for Baal, Asherah, and all the host of heaven. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron and scattered their ashes on the graves of the people.
