    4After this, Joash decided to restore the house of the Lord.

    5He gathered the priests and Levites and said to them, "Go out to the cities of Judah and collect from all Israel money to repair the house of your God annually. Hurry and do this task." But the Levites did not act quickly.

    11Whenever they saw there was a lot of money in the chest, the king’s scribe and the high priest would come, count the money that had been brought to the temple of the LORD, and put it into bags.

    9A proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem to bring to the Lord the tax Moses, the servant of God, had imposed on Israel in the wilderness.

    10All the officials and all the people rejoiced and brought their contributions, dropping them into the chest until it was full.

    11Whenever the chest was brought to the king's steward by the Levites, and they saw there was a large amount of money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came, emptied the chest, and returned it to its place. They did this day after day and collected a great amount of money.

    12The king and Jehoiada gave the money to those who carried out the work of the Lord's temple. They hired stonemasons and carpenters to restore the temple and craftsmen to work with iron and bronze to repair the house of the Lord.

    13The workers diligently carried out their tasks, and the restoration of the temple made steady progress under their hands. They rebuilt the house of God according to its original design and strengthened it.

    14When the work was completed, they brought the remaining silver before the king and Jehoiada, and they used it to make utensils for the house of the Lord, including tools for service, bowls, and other articles of gold and silver. They regularly offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord throughout the days of Jehoiada.

    16The priests entered the inner part of the house of the LORD to cleanse it. They brought out all the unclean things they found in the temple of the LORD and carried them to the courtyard of the house of the LORD. The Levites then took them and carried them out to the Kidron Valley.
