18But to the house of the Rechabites, Jeremiah said: 'This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Because you have obeyed the command of Jonadab, your ancestor, and have kept all his instructions and done all that he commanded you,”'
19Therefore, this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Jonadab, son of Rechab, will never lack a man to stand before Me all the days.'
2Go to the house of the Rechabites, speak to them, bring them into the house of the LORD, to one of the chambers, and offer them wine to drink.
3So I took Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah, son of Habazziniah, his brothers, all his sons, and the entire house of the Rechabites.
5Build houses and settle in them. Plant gardens and eat their fruit.
6We have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our rulers, our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.
13But if you say, 'We will not stay in this land,' and do not listen to the voice of the LORD your God,
14Instead, you say, 'No, we will go to the land of Egypt where we will not see war, hear the sound of the trumpet, or suffer hunger for bread. There we will stay.'
30joined together with their relatives and nobles, committing themselves with a curse and an oath to follow the Law of God, given through Moses, the servant of God, and to obey carefully all the commands, regulations, and decrees of the LORD our Lord.
17Instead, we will do everything we promised: we will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, just as we, our ancestors, our kings, and our officials did in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem. At that time, we had plenty of food, prospered, and experienced no disaster.
29Far be it from us to rebel against the LORD and turn away from Him today by building an altar for burnt offerings, grain offerings, and sacrifices other than the altar of the LORD our God that stands in front of His tabernacle.
26That is why we said, ‘Let us build an altar—not for burnt offerings or sacrifices,
18We will not return to our homes until every Israelite has received their inheritance.
15For we are strangers and temporary residents before you, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.
11Therefore, because you trample on the poor and exact a grain tax from them, though you have built houses of cut stone, you will not live in them; though you have planted delightful vineyards, you will not drink their wine.
9'Then we asked those elders, and we said to them, "Who gave you the authority to rebuild this temple and complete this structure?"'
13I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and cities you did not build. You are living in them and eating from vineyards and olive groves you did not plant.

5For I have not lived in a house from the day I brought Israel out until this very day. I have moved from tent to tent and from tabernacle to tabernacle.

4We must pay for the water we drink; even our wood comes at a price.
