  • Jer 2:31-32 : 31 You people of this generation, consider the word of the LORD: ‘Have I been a wilderness to Israel or a land of deep darkness? • Deut 7:12-18 : 12 And it will happen that because you listen to these ordinances, and keep and obey them, the LORD your God will keep with you the covenant and the steadfast love that He swore to your ancestors. 13 He will love you and bless you and multiply you. He will bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land—your grain, your new wine, and your fresh oil—the young of your livestock and the calves of your herds in the land that He swore to your ancestors to give you. 14 You will be blessed above all peoples; there will be no barrenness among you, whether in men, women, or your livestock. 15 The LORD will remove all sickness from you. He will not inflict on you the terrible diseases of Egypt that you knew, but He will lay them on all who hate you. 16 You shall destroy all the nations the LORD your God is giving over to you. Do not look on them with pity, and do not serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you. 17 If you say in your heart, 'These nations are too numerous for me; how can I drive them out?' 18 Do not be afraid of them. Remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt—
  • Deut 8:10-20 : 10 You will eat and be satisfied, and you will bless the Lord your God for the good land He has given you. 11 Be careful not to forget the Lord your God by failing to keep His commandments, judgments, and statutes that I am commanding you today. 12 Otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built fine houses and settled in them, 13 When your herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silver and gold have increased, and all that you have has multiplied, 14 then your heart may grow proud, and you might forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 15 He led you through the great and terrifying wilderness, filled with venomous snakes, scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water. He brought water for you out of a rock of flint. 16 He fed you manna in the wilderness, which your fathers had never known, to humble and test you so that He might do good for you in the end. 17 You may say in your heart, 'My power and the strength of my hand have produced this wealth for me.' 18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the power to gain wealth, so that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is today. 19 If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely perish. 20 Like the nations that the Lord is destroying before you, so you will perish if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God.
  • Judg 3:7 : 7 The Israelites did evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs.
  • Ezek 16:10-20 : 10 I clothed you with embroidered garments, put sandals of fine leather on you, wrapped you in fine linen, and covered you with silk. 11 I adorned you with jewelry: I put bracelets on your wrists and a necklace around your neck. 12 I put a ring on your nose, earrings on your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. 13 So you were adorned with gold and silver, and your garments were of fine linen, silk, and embroidery. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil, and you became exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. 14 Your fame spread among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through the splendor that I had bestowed on you, declares the Lord GOD. 15 But you trusted in your beauty and acted like a prostitute because of your fame. You lavished your acts of prostitution on every passerby, willing to be his. 16 You took your garments and made colorful high places for yourself, and on them, you committed prostitution. Such things should not have happened, nor should they occur. 17 You also took the fine jewelry made of gold and silver that I had given you, and you made male idols for yourself and engaged in prostitution with them. 18 You took your embroidered garments to cover them, and you presented my oil and incense before them. 19 Also, the food I provided for you–the fine flour, oil, and honey that I fed you–you set before them as a pleasing aroma. And so it was, declares the Lord GOD. 20 You even took the sons and daughters you bore to me and sacrificed them to the idols as food. Was your prostitution not enough?
