  • 2 Kgs 18:13-14 : 13 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah's reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them. 14 King Hezekiah of Judah sent this message to the king of Assyria at Lachish: "I have done wrong. Withdraw from me, and I will pay whatever you demand." So the king of Assyria imposed on Hezekiah king of Judah a tribute of three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

  • 2 Kgs 19:22-25 : 22 Whom have you mocked and insulted? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in arrogance? It is against the Holy One of Israel! 23 By your messengers you have mocked the Lord, saying, 'With my many chariots I have ascended the heights of the mountains, the utmost heights of Lebanon. I will cut down its tallest cedars and its choicest junipers. I will go to its farthest heights, its most fruitful forest.' 24 I have dug wells in foreign lands and drunk water there. With the soles of my feet, I have dried up all the streams of Egypt. 25 Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you have turned fortified cities into piles of rubble.
  • 2 Chr 13:7 : 7 Then worthless and reckless men gathered around him and opposed Rehoboam, son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and inexperienced and could not stand against them.
  • 2 Chr 32:15-19 : 15 Now do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you in this way, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or the hand of my ancestors. How much less will your God save you from my hand? 16 His servants continued to speak against the LORD God and against His servant Hezekiah. 17 Sennacherib also wrote letters to ridicule the LORD, the God of Israel, and to say against Him, "Just as the gods of the nations of other lands did not deliver their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver His people from my hand." 18 They called out loudly in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten and terrify them in order to capture the city. 19 They spoke about the God of Jerusalem as they did about the gods of the peoples of the earth—products of human hands.
  • Isa 10:7-9 : 7 But this is not what he intends, nor does he plan it in his heart. Instead, his purpose is to destroy and to cut off many nations. 8 For he says, 'Are not all my princes kings? 9 Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? And is not Samaria like Damascus? 10 Just as my hand seized the kingdoms of idols, whose carved images exceeded those of Jerusalem and Samaria, 11 shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her images? 12 When the Lord has finished all His work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, He will punish the pride of the king of Assyria's heart and the glory of his haughty eyes. 13 For he says, 'By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, because I have understanding. I removed the boundaries of nations, plundered their treasures, and brought down their mighty ones like a bull.' 14 My hand seized the wealth of nations like one finds a nest. As one gathers abandoned eggs, I gathered all the earth; no wing fluttered, no beak opened to chirp. 15 Does the axe exalt itself above the one who wields it? Or does the saw boast against the one who moves it? It would be like a rod waving the one who lifts it, or a staff acting as though it were not made of wood.
