9Then this city will bring me joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth who hear of all the good I do for it. They will tremble in awe because of all the goodness and peace I provide for it.
10This is what the Lord says: You say of this place, 'It is desolate, without people or animals,' in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, without people, inhabitants, or animals.
3For the Lord comforts Zion; He comforts all her ruins. He will make her wilderness like Eden, her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.
11But now I will not treat the remnant of this people as I did in the past, declares the LORD of Hosts.
3This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place.'
4But now, be strong, Zerubbabel—this is the declaration of the LORD. Be strong, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land—this is the declaration of the LORD. Work, for I am with you—this is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts.
13I have raised him up in righteousness and I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free, not for a price or reward, says the LORD of Hosts.
