Therefore all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp. 17 So Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah. 18 When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the king's house and burned the king's house down over himself with fire and died, 19 because of the sins that he committed in doing evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and for his sin which he committed, making Israel to sin. 20 Now the rest of the acts of Zimri and his conspiracy that he carried out, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

    16So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.

    17And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?

    18So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What do you have to do with peace? Turn in behind me. And the watchman reported, saying, The messenger reached them, but he has not returned.

    19Then he sent another on horseback, who came to them, and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What do you have to do with peace? Turn in behind me.

    20And the watchman reported, saying, He reached them and has not returned: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he drives furiously.

    21And Joram said, Prepare. And his chariot was prepared. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the plot of land of Naboth the Jezreelite.

    22And it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

    23And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, Treachery, O Ahaziah!
